Oh, I forgot to add that the reason that universities will not accept the credits is because MCIs credits are "accelerated" as it is an accelerated program....well, that is what Hampton University told me anyways.

I haven't found a univeristy yet that accepted MCIs credits. However, there are many RN to BSN programs at most univeristies and it doesn't matter how you got your RN. As long as you are a RN, you can do most bridge programs.

I graduated the RN program in VA Beach in December. I also passed my NCLEX on the first try, but I wouldn't chalk it up to my wonderful education that I recieved from MCI. I did it for myself, by myself. They can only teach you so much during the 15 months they have you, the rest is on you. You have to take responsibility for your own education. My clinicals were great at several different hospitals on the south side. Med/surg is incredibly tough. I think med/surg is used as a filter to weed out people that won't be able to make it. Anyone can suceed at this program with enough money and determination. I would say that it was worth it. I am a RN now with a good job and a promising future. Good luck to you.

If you know that you ultimately want to be a RN, you should go for it. Have you looked into the different RN program options in HR? You may find one that fits your lifestyle. Also, don't expect to find a giant amount of money in Hampton Roads in nursing. This area is one of the lowest paying areas in the country with a higher cost of living. New RNs start out at about 41,000 (19.60/hour) a year at Sentara, and it doesn't matter if you are a BSN or diploma. You can get shift differentials if you opt for 2nd or 3rd shift. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. You will have more options and money if you can find a RN program to fit you. Just try looking for a RN program before you commit yourself to your LPN program. Hi. I just graduated MCI's RN program in December. With you being pre-med/surg, I just want to warn you that med surg was the hardest class that any of us had to pass. Your classmates will drop like flies after med/surg. It is encouraging to see how focused and optimistic you seem...you are going to need that in the months to come. If you can make it through med/surg and acute care, you should be fine. It sounds like your classmates are very supportive and that will help as well. I made it through in the 15 months without repeating anything and passed my boards on the first try- all 11 of my original classmates did. We only had 11 out of 25 original people make it to graduation. Good luck to you and if you ever want to vent, send me a PM...I have been there man.

The RN program is about $27,000 and the LPN program is close to that number also. It is a high price and I kind of regret it, but we are military also and my time here is limited and this is the fastest program I could find. It is a 15 month program and it is a little disorganized. We don't have a lot of lab supplies for regular academic courses. I have been told that the actual nursing classes are better. The pre-reqs are computers, a really easy math, and chemistry. If you have had any of these classes in the past 7 years (including high school), you are exempt. If you have a limited amount of time, then I would recommend this program. But, If time is not an issue, then check into sentera's program or Norfolk State. I do not recommend TCC because the waiting list is really long and it will take you at least 4 years to finish a 2 year program. I hope that this has been helpful. Good Luck!! Crystal

dara757: I just found out my new schedule! I have Nikolova, for A&P 1; and Dowling, for freshman orientation. Do you know them or are you at a different campus?

I finish my pre-reqs next week; computers and math. They told me I was accepted into the program a week and a half ago. I haven't talked to many people there yet and the staff only releases as much info as absolutely necessary, so I am in the dark on student opinions. Thanks for your info. My advisor encouraged me to sign up for the LPN program too, because it was a sure thing and with the RN program I would have to take a gamble. I am glad that I took my chances. My class starts on the 5th of Sept. I am really excited and appreciate all that you have told me. I hope that you go somewhere cheaper for your RN! I will not pay MCI twice, once is definately enough. Crystal

I am pretty new to the area, so I don't know much about the school and it's reputation. As I am sure you know, the school doesn't give you an abundance of information until your program starts.
