Any CSUB Fall 2012 Hopefuls?

You got one here!

Hello everyone. I am new to this thread and just wanted to say I was also accepted into the nursing program at CSUB for the fall. I think it would be nice to get to know people before we start class. Congrats to those who got accepted.

@kher: Hey!:) I joined for the same reason as you. I was curious to find out who my classmates would be.

Hows the checklist going?

Congrats to you as well:)

@gurjit: It's going well.. Already done background/drug test, mask fit, TB, and all the forms that needed to be signed. I will start buying all the other stuff a little bit later. Geez we have to she'll out almost 1000 dollars before we even start....CRAZY! How is it going for you...did you see our book list yet at the bookstore for NURS 261... There are like 12 books they want us to buy.

Oh wow yea it is close to 1000. I already bought everything except the books and completed all the necessary forms to fill out. I was adding it up last nite to see how much I had to fork over without the books. My total came up to 841. That's only becaz I already had my cpr class completed in april, and most of my immunizations were already completed. So yes your right it is about 1000 dollars i ended up spending. I already have black leather shoes so I saved on that as well. What kind of stethoscope did you buy? I bought one and my brother bought me a cheaper one. I am not sure which one i want to keep. ATI cost me a lot. I hope that's a one time payment. I wasn't sure because it said thank you for your semester payment. I hope we don't have to buy that every semester/ quarter.

I have not even looked at the books we have to buy. are all the books for this one quarter?

Are all the books for nursing at the bookstore?

:)very excited

I just went to the online bookstore and looked up our class. I already took patho so I won't be taking it, I am happy about that!

I think all those books are for the entire 3 year program. I still have to take patho, but I am excited about taking it. It's great you got at least one class out of the way. I think i am gonna buy all the recommended books as well.

Uh I don't think so cuz there was no med-surg book or peds or critical care... But I guess we will see :)....Patho was a good class but it was hard...I think half our class didn't pass.... Do you know anyone else that got accepted?

Oh yea your right. Wow that's a lot of books then. Are you buying your books online. I checked amazon and the prices seem pretty close to what the book store is selling them.

Yea a few people on this form got accepted. I only know the people on here. I am not really sure about anyone else.

I plan on getting the patho book today to review before the class starts.

Actually thought about going to the book store today and just buying all of them.

Hi Kher and gurjit,

Where did you get your CPR class completed? I saw a lot of classes online so I guess I'll be doing that. Can we buy our patho and Nurs 261 books yet or do we need to wait till we are enrolled? I feel so behind as I won't be able to get started on everything till next Monday since I don't get back from our honeymoon till late Saturday night.

Right now, I'm reading a really good book: Mosby's Tour Guide to Nursing School. I highly recommend it...I feel so much more prepared to tackle everything. Plus I'm quite the nerd and enjoy prepping as much as possible ;)

Can't wait to meet you all in person! Oh and I do know 3 other people besides you all that got in and they are awesome :)

Hey stacey:) I took my class at the delano hospital because they were willing to make arrangements to offer the class anytime it suited me best. I wouldn't take the class online. If you take it in person you really get the chance to go over the information a second time after reading the book. Everywhere else that I looked only offered it twice a month. However, this was back in May so maybe there are places here in town that are offering it more since there is an actual demand now. I got the patho book yesterday. The other books won't be in the store until next month. I haven't started reading it yet, but I do plan to look over it before I take the class. I heard this class is difficult. The list of all the books you need is actually on the web page for the bookstore. I don't really see much of a price difference so I plan on buying most of the books from school. I think I might buy a couple from amazon or other web sites. I haven't had time to really look and compare prices. I think you should get your patho book as soon as possible. Start prepin for that. Don't worry your not behind. I took my time completing everything. If on monday morning you get to work on the list you should be done with it in about 2 days max if you really commit to it. You have tons of time still. Like do the mask fitting, drug test, and uniform in one day. That's what I did because I live on the southwest side of bakersfield and it was easier to just do them all in one day. I'll check that book out as well. I been just reading threads on allnurses.com. I heard the program isn't hard but it's just hard to train yourself to think a different way. It's kind of like the Teas exam. There maybe questions where all the choices are right and you have to pick the best one. I think that's going to be the hardest part for me. I am gonna try to think more critically this summer. A lot of people have posted advice like do not procrastinate and try to study 3-5 hours a day. There is a lot of good advice on this site. I am the same way as you. I like being confident and ready. I am excited about meeting everyone as well. I hope we have an awesome class and we all can get to know each other really well.

Thanks Gurjit! I heard patho is challenging as well, eek! I'm excited to start looking over the textbook though. My best friend graduates from the program at the end of this year so she's given me lots of advice about what to expect. She said to expect to have no life, to get thrown a lot of info at once and to have copious amounts of reading. She said to also get used to being stressed. My friend is insanely smart so if she's stressed, then I believe her! I'm getting all kinds of stuff situated before school starts so that will help :)
