Any CNM NHSC scholars out there?

Published

Hello! The time is approaching when I have to decide whether to pursue the NHSC Scholarship for my two yrs of MN/Midwifery study. I am going back and forth, partly due to the lack of available info, and I'm wondering if there are any CNM NHSC scholars out there who might be able to answer a few questions. Thanks, and thank you all for all the good midwifery work you do, love, support, etc :)

This is a great question! I see it hasn't had any response yet...if there aren't any NHSC scholars out there, how about midwives doing the loan repayment options? I'm looking at both and have questions for that route, too.

I am working to try to get the loan repayment now. First I have to get my site approved, but the actual loan repayment application looks pretty straightforward. I have had some friends use the program and seems to be a great deal. Let me know if you have specific questions and I can pass them on.

@ CEG: Can you pick sites you think will be eligible or does the website have a list of sites you need to choose from?

2) When is the best time to start applying for loan repayment? After you're completely licensed and passed all your boards, or during your last semester of school? Thanks!

What is required to get your facility approved? And if it is approved do you still need a site score?

Go to the website and read the info, it will answer all of your questions, it is very informative and easy to navigate. Your site must be located within a HPSA (health professional shortage area). Based on the location it is assigned a score. The higher the score, the more loan repayment you get. You must be located in a HPSA to be approved but just being in a HPSA does not get approval, you must also meet the requirements that are outlined on the website (sliding scale, services offered, etc). You can't apply for loan repayment until you have a job at an approved site.
