I will graduate this May. I really, really want to work at Children's (although with the poor job market, I'm willing to work somewhere else) and just have some questions about the hiring process. I went to an open house and assumed it was a tour of the hospital, however, I did an onsite interview. I don't think it went bad- I just wasn't expecting it. I haven't heard anything since so I am assuming I most likely didn't get it- although I don't know if they are waiting to fill the positions.
Anyways, I just wanted to talk with someone who knows about the hiring process there- I applied online to another position but am afraid my application just went into a big pile. Do I just wait for them to call, or do I call them? Just wondering if any current employees would be willing to answer some questions or offer advice. I have never had a "real" job before so I am a bit clueless w/ the whole process in general.

I have interviewed with Children's, and I was told that most units won't have their budget until late Feb or early Mar. so they will not know until then exactly how many new grads they can hire. What that means is they usually will know the top couple of people before then - some units make those people offers and some wait until they get their final numbers.
I was told that if I got an offer before I heard from them, to call them back and tell them the situation and they will try and figure out if they're at the point that they can make an offer at that time. So keep looking - if you do get an offer, you can leverage that to try and get more info from Children's if that is your number one place.
Thank you!
