Any Augusta Technical College Students around? Augusta, Georgia that is?
hi pegasus65,
i just read yur message. that is crazy!!!! i am in my thrid quarter here and wroking hard toward finishing this quarter and moving on to the next. our teacher keeps stressing about anything on our background checks....she is saying if there is anything there, we need to write a letter and gather proper documents to go along with it when we get ready to apply for the nclex. there is one student who graduated last quarter and they have yet to let her sit for the nclex.......i think it dealt with a dui, child endargement, and stuff dealing with a divorce. i am wondering, are they looking at stuff you have been charged with, went to court and was found not guility or the stuff that is actual on your background check.....we had to do one for clinicals at this big hospital. i have a couple of misdemenors that were remedied with cash fines being paid (15-16 yrs ago).....do you think i need to worry about these. i can honestly say they were not drug related in any way!!!!!
What were your grades to get into the program? If you don't mind telling me...
Hey Latric3,
The grades vary from 4.0 to 3.7. I got in with students who took one class at a time and made "A"s the whole entire time. My course load consisted of 3 classes in which I made 2-As and a B. But the list to get in any of these nursing programs is hellacious and they change every quarter. Certain teachers only want a total of 20 students, but your class will usually spill over with 24-28 students because students who have failed out the previous quarters are given an oppurtunity to get back in after jumping therough a couple of hoops!!!!
Where are you trying to get in at: Thomson, Augusta, Waynesboro??????? If you are one of the guys who is stuck on keeping a straight A average, you can manage but I would not be a sticklery about that once you get into the program!
Hi Bikr,
I won't lie to you... if it were me I would go ahead NOW and get disposition letters on these old offenses no matter how old OR what they concerned. The question on the application is if you have EVER been arrested or convicted.
My DUI wasn't even on record anymore. In fact it took me a MONTH to even get a disposition letter because Savannah's state court had all old records stored at another location. That is why I am saying do it NOW before you need it. The GA BON still drug their feet on my application even AFTER I managed to get a disposition letter and mailed it to them certified mail.
I was very disappointed in the way they handled my application and also treated me on the phone. Out of ALL the representatives I spoke with only ONE seemed interested in helping me... the rest basically just wanted to get me off the phone with another "call back next" week! I truly feel that if I hadn't filed a complaint I would STILL be waiting!!!
Good luck to you with finishing this last bit of school. My plans are to begin some pre req's in January. I am now working just two days a week at a LTC. I didn't want full time because I want to go back to school and also be with my mom, who is 84. She resides with my husband and I...:)
Keep in touch.

Sorry it took so long, I hope you still get on here.lol.
I'm currently re-taking math and english at the Waynesboro campus. I had a B in both. I should get at least a 90 in english, but math is not looking so hot. I got A's in the anatomy classes, computer and psych. My GPA as of now is a 3.5 hopefully it will at least be a 3.8 before applying.
Hey there,I had a 4.0 going into the nursing program and finished it with an overall 3.62 GPA, which considering how many we lost guess wasn't too bad.
Oh and Bikr I didn't get an email with your response, which is why it took me so long to get back to you...I just got one showing the previous poster's question about grades:)... I passed nclex with 85 questions and am now working in LTC. I won't lie to you.. it is very overwhelming. Hopefully as the days go by it will get easier. I passed my NCLEX on August 19th, but didn't get licensed until October 1st. I got a DUI TWENTY SIX YEARS ago at the age of 18 and they held me up because of that.
In fact I finally had to file a complaint with the Secretary of State before they released my license! Crazy.... this was something I did as a stupid teenager!
Hope all is going well with you and have a great day!
How do you complain about the Georgia Board of Nursing? I passed the NCLEX on the 20 April, 2010....the results for the test were recieved by the Georgia Board of Nursing on the 28th. They keep stalling because of misdeamnors on my background. Any advice?
Bikr,
You would not believe the BS I went through with the GA BON last year. I graduated in June of 2009 and it took me until October to have my license released. I got a DUI over TWENTY SIX YEARS AGO and they held me up because of that. I sent them a disposition letter after I received it.... which took a while to get because they don't keep records from that long ago.
Even after sending the BON this letter they kept on having me call back with one excuse after another. No one was interested in helping me... all they wanted to do was get me off the phone! Finally after three months I sent an email to the Secretary of State complaining and I had a young man contact me within an hour after I sent the email. He had my license released within a few minutes after our conversation that day.
I would suggest you get whatever documentation you can showing whatever the disposition of your case was and submit it to them via certified mail. If within a reasonable amount of time you don't hear anything... contact the Secretary of State and complain just like I did. I am about to start classes to finish my RN next month. I sure hope that I don't have to go through this mess again. I don't see that I should have to since they have all the info from my LPN application concerning this "ancient" DUI lol.
Good luck and let me know how it is going for you!
