Hi All

I am a 42 year old single mom. I started BMCC (in NY) two years ago but had to stop because it was a little to much on my daughter. Now she is starting high school next year and I am registering for the spring 2009. I have done a few classes like eng 101, Psy 100, mat 104. I am working fulltime and can only do evening/wk end program. I am planning to take chem 121 (which is pre for A&P 1) and eng 201 and maybe Psy 240?? I can't take heavy course load because of my schedule. At present I am a full time nanny (two kids). One is in school up to 3 and the other 2yrs has muscular dystrophy. She is on a feeding tube, can't walk and has severe respitory problems. i have learned to use GT, CPap, Bypap machines, suction machines. She however starts pre school next fall so I will have alot of free time in the morning to study.(Can't take classes in morning must stick around if she gets sick) Do you guys think I can pull this off? or am I kidding myself here? Taking care of this little girl made me realize I can help more than just 1 child. My daughter will be home with my cousin on the nights I am late. I have things planned out as to how to keep my daughter occupied when I am in class on weekends. She is good.......so far!!:nuke: Ideas??? Thanks

I know you can do it if you put your mind to it! We are the same age (good vintage) and I'm just a little ahead of you, graduating in August 2010. We also have a little in common being caretakers. My mom had chronic progressive multiple sclerosis which became severe in the last years of her life. She had limited use of one hand and that's it, but at least she could still use a wheelchair. Between the lift and a suprapubic catheter, we were able to keep her out of long term care. She passed away a year and a half ago and that's when I started prereq's.

If you ever need help or just want to vent, send me a private message and I'll get right back to you. I'd be happy to give whatever help I can.

What help do you have for babysitting? Tell me more and I can give you my two cents.

Again, if you're driven to complete this, you can. Good luck.

You can do it. Your job now sounds like a great foundation for nursing school. Consider taking some of your courses online. You can find a lot of options through the suny learning network. This will go a long way in helping you to manage your schedule and responsibilities.

Good Luck on going back to school at age 42. I too am staring over again. I started nursing pre-requisites in Spring of 2002. I was able to comple A & P 2401, 2402 and Micro 2420 at Houston Community College by Fall 2003. Unfortunately all courses will have to repeated as they are now over 5 years old.

I got derailed due to a bad marriage but I'm not going to dwell on it. Just picking myself up and starting again. I have a school-age daughter which will make it tough but I know I can do it.

I am trying to get into an evening ADN program at either Lonestar College (Kingwood) or Lee College (Baytown). I have registered for a CNA course to start on Jan.19th and end Feb. 26th. After completing the CNA and passing the state test I would be eligible to work as an CNA.

Anyone knowing of other evening ADN programs in the Houston area I could apply to? Any help would be much appreciated.

Happy New Year
