I am a new grad nurse last may of this year. Took and passed nclex on july and started a job on Sept. Ever since i started to work on the floor i feel stupid and really scared. I was hired for nights and i dont have problem with the shift (im actually loving it) its just that everytime i come in to work i wanna throw up and cry... Even my night offs are already affected.. I cant sleep or get a good rest because im always anxious and nervous. I always cry and feelin so depressed. I actually thinkin about quitin soon. I just cant stand how some doctors screams or yells at u even if u did everythin for the patient.. I always freeze and cant get my self together everytime theres an emergency goin on. I just cant take it anymore. I am a new grad nurse but already workin on my own after 2 mos of orientation because accdg to my assistant manager (my preceptor) i am good and ready enough to start on my own but i dont feel like i am ready yet. Real nursing world affected me sooo much and i think i need help. I need anyones advice on this. Because right now i feel alone.

((HUGSS)) the first year is the hardest. If you are that depressed see your PCP...us creatures of the night miss out on that sunshine and can affect our moods.....just like those with seasonal affect disorder. I moved your thread to first year after licensure for a better response.
Maybe you need a good brain sheet to help you.......here are a few.

Sorry you are feeling so down. BTW, did you post this from work???? (looking at the time posted) That is not such a good idea.
Just from what you have written, it seems like you lack confidence in your own abilities. This will improve over time - there is no quick fix. I guarantee you that a year from now, you will be helping the latest new grads overcome the same issues.
As for grumpy docs... this is the bane of all night-shifters. Make sure you are always prepared before you call a doc. Using the SBAR format will ensure more effective communications.
Do not tolerate disrespect. I'm sure your facility has a procedure for dealing with "disruptive behavior" (regulatory requirement). Make sure you are familiar with it and USE it. If you honestly feel that a physician is being inappropriate/hostile to you personally (not just because she had to respond to your call at 2 AM), ask your charge nurse to listen in on an extension when you call. This will eliminate the 'he said - she said' problem & provide you with better documentation.
Take a deep breath. You Got This!
