:banghead:Hey, in advance, no disrespect to any nurse. I am a 19 year old male and have decided to become a nurse. I was referred to this website by a friend and was excited because I really needed some help in what my career path should be.
My parents are gone and I have no motivation and was really hoping that somebody could help me out. I have posted a few threads but have not recieved many responses at all. I was just wondering why no one responds? Is it how I post the question or the Title, or what? Please let me know before I change my mind. Nurses have the generalization of being grumpy and short-tempered. Is this true or do you guys really care about the well-being of people.Thank you.

I think its the way you are phrasing your question. Sounds harsh to me, try rewording and you will be better received...
To answer the question though, I care very deeply about the well being of my patients... Wouldn't be able to get through my shift if I didn't. I just think the profession has a high/quick burn out rate of nurses who should find better suited positions but don't...

There's also a Pre-Nursing forum here: https://allnurses.com/forums/f198/
Hope that helps!

It is difficult to tell exactly what you are looking for in your post. You say you are alone and unmotivated and also want to know what your career path should be. Where are you in your process besides deciding that you want to be a nurse? (That is a crucial step...so good job, so far.)
If that is all you know, then the next question is if you have decided where you want to go to school, do you want to go for your LPN or your RN?? etc....
If you could be more specific, more people would respond.
Nursing is a great career for men as well as women. Are you working now? It might be a good idea to start as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) while you start your studies...you will see a great deal first hand and will see for yourself what sparks your interest in the nursing field.
Please keep asking. There is so many wise people here. Sometimes it takes a while, but you should get some reponses!

I really think that the way you asked the question may be the reason that you are not getting answers. It sounds kind of rude. Also, you did not ask a specific question. We cant choose a career path for you, we dont know you. I did happen to find your original question however, which was asking if becoming a CNA first was a good idea. I would say absolutely. I think it is advantageous to start at the bottom and work there while you are in school. You see and learn so much just by watching, and it also may give you an idea of where you might want to specialize, or what environment you want to work in. Also, it gives you healthcare experience, which looks good on both school and work applications. I know that here in California it is really hard to get into an RN program and there are extensive waitlists. A good way to go may be starting as a CNA, and then doing an LVN program, and from there doing an LVN to RN step up. These usually have much shorter waitlists than the generic RN programs. I got my CNA 6 months ago, and Im in an LVN program now. I found that EVERY single LVN program I applied to required that you be a CNA prior to applying. So, theres another good reason to do it. If you are in the San Diego area I know A LOT about all the programs here...its been a long hard road for me. So I could give you some info if you need it. If you are in another area, I wont be able to tell you much.
Sorry it was so long. Hope it helped. Good luck and hang in there.
