another rejection letter

Hi all, I got rejected once again from the school that last semester only took people with gpa's of 3.9 or better. Obviously it wasn't a huge shock. I still have one more to apply for, but have also been accepted to a surgical technology program. Since previously volunteering in the hospital in the OR, I saw the difference in the responsibilities of both the ST and the OR-RN, at least for that hospital. Since I am definitely interested in surgery, I am starting to think that the surgical tech program would actually be better anyways. The pay is about the same and I could still further my training to become a 1st assistant. So, how would you all feel about having someone in a surgical tech program coming here to talk about school? Would that be ok? There is a website with a discussion board for surgical techs, but it isn't as good as this one and since I have been coming here so long while taking pre-reqs and getting my AS in health sciences, I feel comfortable here. I would miss coming here once in a while. Anyways, I just thought I would see how you all would feel about that. I will let you know if that is where I end up or if I do end up being accepted to the other RN program.

Good luck with making your decision...!

I'm sure no one would mind at all if you hung around - I know for a fact there are posters here in a variety of other healthcare disciplines - rad. tech, PA, speech pathology, etc etc. :)

No, Kimberly, you're not allowed to post here anymore.

*hugs* Silly girl. Bummer about your letter. :o Crossing fingers for that other school. Whatever happens, let us know!

I'm applying to a rad tech program and that hasn't stopped me from posting here! :p I know what you mean about boards for other healthcare careers. Most of the rad tech boards are zzzzzzzzzzz, the only one that I know of that is really active is full of residents arguing about politics!

Good luck with the surg tech! I hope that you enjoy it.

We would love to continue to talk with you. If you really want to do surg tech then do that, but if you really want to do nursing, please do not give up on it.

I know it is frustrating now and I know most people do not have time to sit around waiting for nursing programs to let them in. BUT if nursing is what you really want to do then you should do it.

Either way, I wish you luck!

what ever the choice you make, please keep posting here with us. all the best.

Thanks for the great encouragement. It is interesting to see that there are other people from different programs. What I have decided I will probably do is to start the ST program if I don't get into the last nursing program I have to apply to for the fall. Then I will probably keep applying for the BSN program after that while in the ST program. I just don't want to keep getting more and more AS degrees. I also need to start working eventually. I am 37 years old now; not old, but also not getting any younger either. I have a great gpa from the school I am going to now (mostly a's with a couple b's and c's), but in WA I got lower grades (mostly b's, but a couple c's thrown in) while trying to cope with the more difficult years of my son's Tourette's syndrome . I know now that I should have just retaken the few courses I needed like Biology, Speech, and English, but that is why I am not getting accepted now. It is ok though because I am really interested in surgery. I guess I will end up where I am supposed to end up.
