Another NCLEX worrier

hello everyone! i took my nclex on wednesday, and i am just dying !! it was so hard, i felt like i guessed the entire time. when it shut off at 75, i almost had an mi! i definitely didn't think i answered enough questions correctly. i was not prepared for the difficulty of the exam, and i studied from about 4 different review books/cds. i really don't think the material i studied or the practice questions helped me at all! i made a's in nursing school, and have worked as a tech for a year. i keep asking myself what i could have done differently, and what have i learned over the past 2 years?? i didn't think prioritizing questions could be as hard as the ones i was asked.

i have talked to some of my classmates who have already passed. they said they felt the same way, sure they failed, only to find out otherwise. i have read numerous postings on boards like this one from other new grads who say the same things---"oh my god i know i failed!! i was completely blindsided! there is no way i could have passed that test!!!" then a few days later they post another message that they passed!! i just have to say that those posts are keeping me from killing myself. doesn't it seem unfair that all of nursing school boils down to 60 questions (15 of the questions are "tryouts" and don't count toward your score. only you don't know which 15 questions they are!)???????

anyway, i just needed to take my turn at freaking out. thanks to all of you for listening and for posting your stories, so i know i am not alone! i started working as a gn yesterday in the icu---i will be so humiliated and embarassed if i didn't pass boards! you will find me under a rock somewhere.......

thanks for listening!

Rachael,

Congratulations! I took the boards in February and the computer had shut down at 75. Yes, I almost had heart failure too! I passed and did not even believe it, until my husband read me the whole contents of the envelope that had come in the mail. The NCLEX is a bear. I don't care how hard you study or how well you do in school; it is still a difficult test. Well, good luck with your nursing career and welcome to the RN world.:)

red hello, i am relatively new to this site. i took my nclex yesterday and i am freaking out! i have been an lpn for over 25 years, all in acute care, and finally completed my rn. i felt i was ready for that exam. i did very well in school, do alot of reading, love to study. i took extra time to get ready, used 4 differant books/cd's, and i have no clue how they came up with those questions!! my exam ended at 75. i felt going in if that happened i would feel confident i passed. what a fool am i. i felt like throwing up when it turned off! those are some the weirdest questions i have ever come across. nothing i studied helped to prepare me for that! i will be able to call a 1-900 # on friday to see if i passed, will i still be sane ? will my family still be living here? my husband is very supportive, he is sure i passed. when i exclaim for the 1000th time, oh, god i failed!!, he just looks at me, raises his eyebrows, and calmly say's "you passed" his feeling is that they determine early on if you passed, and then they throw alot of critical thinking ?? at us. all i know is friday can not come soon enough. thank's, cindy

I took my Boards in July I got 75 then the computer shut off. I was POSITIVE I had failed only to learn that I had passed. Please remember that there are 15 try out questions on the NCLEX. You can get all of these wrong because they are questions the NCLEX is trying out for future exams. So that means there are only 60 graded questions. You only have to answer a certain percentage correct (say, 80%, like nursing school) that means you could answer almost 30 questions wrong including the try out questions. So RELAX and take DEEP BREATHS. It will be ok. Good luck and let me know how you did when you find out. :D

I too, had 75 and just knew that I did not pass - but I did!!

{{{{{{{Cindy}}}}}}} I know the feeling well and yes I wore out the web site for the state of Tennessee. Last Friday evening, while my husband and I were cooking, I told him I would check the site one more time. The site came up, I entered my name, the time bar clicked off, my name came up, and there it was I passed!Well needless to say, the cats when scurring down the hall and the hubby was somewhat taken back, but once he realized what I was saying he came to see for himself!

I agree with you I do not know where those questions came from, but I did my best to answer each. Everyone kept saying I passed, but I just didn't feel like it. I knew I would be the first one who took 75 questions and failed. I know you passed is what I am trying to tell you, but you won't believe it until you see if for yourself.

;)

I just called the 1-900 # to see if I passed, and I did!! What a relief! Today is my husbands 45 b-day, which I thought would be lucky, and it was. Now we can relax and enjoy the day! Thank's for support....Cindy RN
