Can someone please explain the difference btwn non-anion and anion met acidosis, why it's important to know the difference and how do we treat/manage this? I just started in ICU and I have been hearing this a lot here.

I do see the problem and stated it in my reply. Just because someone is new and doesn't understand something doesn't mean they should get the info handed to them on a silver platter. You want to make better more independent nurses??? Allow them to think for themselves and do some self teaching on some things.
Maybe the OP was trying to seek out nurses who have experience with this phenomenon on a daily basis as they are adjusting to their role as an ICU nurse. Just think! All that time you spent writing your sassy reply you could have spent...gasp!...helping another nurse? See the problem?

First time I have visited this forum in years. Now I remember why. Time to delete this app. Makes me embarrassed to be a nurse.

I'm with you in theory, but the wording came across as abrasive and I think that is what people are faulting.
OP, I use Medscape almost every shift. They break down disease processes into overview, presentation, differential, workup, and management. So an example of anion gap acidosis would be DKA:
Diabetic Ketoacidosis: Practice Essentials, Background, Practice Essentials
See if you're job has any resources available. Mine has UpToDate accessible from any computer, which I also use frequently.

Some people may learn better by asking the question, getting an answer, then going to do research for a better understanding and clarification. Just because they ask a question doesn't mean they want a silver platter nor trying to take the easy way out. Good for you if you know the answer but don't want to share your knowledge and help others out. Just read and move on.
