Anesthesia, memory loss and the NCLEX!

Published

Hello to all that have tested and PASSED! How exciting. I had to post something because I'm about to come out of my skin and need some words of encouragement, etc. I graduated in May, took the Kaplan review course at the end of May, had an Abdominal Hysterectomy the first week of June. I am currently trying to recuperate and trying (and I mean literally) to study for NCLEX. I took a practice test last night and made a 41%. I was APPALLED. Did I forget everything I've learned from nursing school? Did the anesthesia affect me in some adverse way? Am I pushing myself too hard? I don't know, I'm at a loss at the moment. If anyone has information on the effects of anesthesia and memory, please let me know. My husband thinks I'm pushing myself too hard, that I should focus on getting better and then think about studying. I can always move the test to a later date when I feel better about things. But, I think it's going to make me more anxious about it. :uhoh3:

I think you husband is right. You are under a lot of stress, especially with your recent surgery. Taking the NCLEX is already stressful and you know what you have learned in nursing. Stress can take its toll. Give yourself time to recuperate from the surgery. The NCLEX will always be there. Story-my friend took the exit exam two days ago. She admitted that she took time off from study to do this or that. She also was not confident and she did not pass her exit exam. Take the time for your body to physically heal and in turn your mind will follow. The Bible says to be anxious for nothing, so give yourself time. Now wouldn't you tell that to a patient. Tell it to yourself.
