And the weight gain begins..

I read on here about all the weight people were gaining in nursing school and said to myself, "that wont be me!" Yea, well....9 weeks into my program and I have already gained 7 lbs. I know to some people that may not be that much, but I also know if I don't change something now, its going to keep climbing. Its just so hard to get on that treadmill after a butt load of homework instead of ....oh I dunno....sleeping? And who wants to eat celery when eating is one of the few enjoyable and stress free events of your day?

ineffective coping related to stress from nursing school as evidenced by eating 3 slices of pizza and sitting on my a** for 12 hours with a book in my face.

So yea, I know its an easy plan to write....Stop eating and get in motion!!!!...but im sure some of you out there understand how hard that can be during this roller coaster ride of nursing school. Just venting. I guess Ill go buy some new jeans now...

Sigh......

I have already gained 10 lbs finishing my pre reqs. The above advice is really great, but I know it is easier said than done. Thanks for the motivation to start preparing to make these changes now.

I was also one of those people who didn't think i'd gain weight. I thought i'd be able to keep my same exercise habits. That worked for the first 2 weeks of the semester. Then reality set in. This is my first semester of nursing school and its so stressful as i'm sure everyone already knows. I'm gonna try again next semester because i know what to expect. I don't know how much more exercise i'll be able to get. But i do know that i can make better food choices.

I have a tip for trying to fit exercise into your schedule. I am SURE you are not the only one in your class gaining weight, so recruit a group of your fellow student nurses and find fun things to do, like hiking or playing sports (basketball, tennis, volleyball) before class or during breaks. Your school campus likely has a running track, tennis courts, basketball courts, or something of that ilk. Playing with a group of people makes exercise more fun and therefore makes you more likely to do it and thus, remain active and help keep that excess weight off.

I went through an ABSN program, so we were aaaaaaaaaaalways inundated with schoolwork, projects, and tests. But there was a steady group of us who always made time to play sports or hike before class or during our lunch break.

Worth a shot, right? Good luck! :nurse:

well....no advice, but just wanted to say "thank you" for the much needed laugh. I was actually on the forum looking for strategies on being successful in school and came across this. LOVED LOVED LOVED the nursing diagnosis statement. Best of luck to you!

weight gain is not the only problem, a lot of my classmates suffer from neck pain...back pain....aXX pain....lol
