Anatomy - Spring 2009 - What to Study?

Published

For those of you have already taken anatomy, can you tell us what the most important things to study beforehand are? I already have my textbook and I'm ready to go, there is so much information, what should be my top priorities?

If your A&P is divided into two courses (A&P I and then A&P II), you should start by looking at all of the bones, then the muscles, etc. Work on your abbreviations, and knowing your "technical terms" such as medial, proximal, etc....these words probably aren't in your daily vocabulary yet. A&P II will is usually where they get into the systems more (cardiovascular system, pulmonary system, digestive system, etc.). In order to understand the larger systems, you need to have a firm grasp on the parts that comprise that system...so start small, make sure you understand everything before you add something else to it.

Good Luck!!!

Yes, you definitely should study your cuts/planes and locations i.e saggital, midsagittal, transverse planes etc, proximal, distal, superior, anterior, posterior, deep, superficial etc

We covered the parts of the body, locations, cuts/planes first, then we did The Cell and Parts of the Cell, then the Bones, Muscles, Nervous System, The Brain etc.
