Anatomy and Physiology

Published

Hey guys!

Anatomy and Physiology 1 begins on 6/6. What can I expect? I have a full week off next week and would like to spend it preparing myself. Any advice?

Thanks!

Expect a lot of reading and studying. do you have your book? If you do you can start reading if you have the syllabus available. Study daily and also print out power points in advance if they are given to you before class starts.

Thanks for your reply!

I will be picking up the book later on today as well as the Syllabus. No power points available as of yet. Can you recommend any specific topics that I should touch up on before? Its been 10 years since obtaining my HS diploma, so therefore I am weak in the Biology area..

Thanks!

For A&P, I always liked to read each chapter twice. The first time through, it was always a bit of a struggle as I tripped over unfamiliar terminology. I tried not to get too bogged down by it, though. The goal was to skim for the general idea, and familiarize myself with the process. The second read-through, those words would start to make more sense, and I was able to understand the physiological process better. Try not to get overwhelmed. Try to read ahead of the professor's lectures. Then do a second reading after lecture.

Right now, I'm reviewing my A&P book because it has been 5 years since I've taken it, and I start nursing school in the fall. I am reading each chapter, and then watching videos on khanacademy.org to help solidify those tough physiology concepts. If you haven't checked it out, it is a wonderful resource.

Same here Fancychicken. Khanacademy is awesome. Thanks for your reply (:

who are you taking with at EDUKAN? I was thinking about enrolling (late) are exams on campus?

I am an old guy (44) and A&P 1 was my first class in 20 years. I ended up with an A in it, but I got a little behind the first day because homework was posted online before class and was due the first day of class. I am no computer dummy, I built my own computer; I just had never heard of homework being due before you actually meet the prof.

Point being, check things out online before you go. Some profs may want you to fill out something, or have homework due the first day as was my case.

I agree reading the chapters and than rereading. The first time I read the chapters I was worried I couldn't understand it the second time through was much clearer

Thank you guys for the tips. I do have another question - Should I refresh on some Basic Biology? As I can remember, I had the hardest time with DNA/RNA, cell replication, the cellular member and diffusion..

That came more into it with micro. I think everyone will tell you though, if you want to become familiar with something that I can almost guarantee you that you will have to learn MULTIPLE times; LEARN THE KREBS CYCLE!

I was tested on aspects of that in A&P1,2 and Micro. My micro prof told us that from start to finish a doctor learns the Krebs cycle 14 times before he/she becomes a doctor.

Other than that, I would learn about how an action potential works. Aspects of that were covered in numerous chapters. As far as RNA/DNA or stages of meiosis/mitosis I would just wait until you get to that chapter. Cramming that kind of thing when very little of it is covered in A&P1 is not very beneficial. Ya, at some point you will need to know it; but that is like memorizing a ton of hormones right now because at some point you will cover the endocrine system.

Thank you so much for the tips! I am jumping on the Krebs Cycle ASAP!
