Anatomy and Physiology --- app?

Published

Hello all!

I am a pre-nursing student working on Anatomy and Physiology and I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a good app for use with A&P courses? Any tried-and-true study aids or trustworthy must-haves?

Thanks in advance!

Micah

I didn't really find any apps helpful. The way I'd study for the labs was to take the photos of the models provided (or take my own - some professors didn't allow this though) and get them printed on good paper. Then I'd use the solid white out to create a square next to the structure we'd need to know and write numbers on the square. On the other side of the paper, I'd write the full name of the structure and the function of it, if it was necessary. I'd write any additional info I'd need to know in parenthesis (like, if something was a structure or a region or whatever). Those were my "flash cards". Everyone in my class would borrow those, so I know they were really useful.

For physiology, I'd take notes as she lectured, and rewrite them the next day, in my own words. So she'd say "The kidneys produce urine to excrete metabolic waste products and foreign substances from the body" and I'd rewrite that as "The kidneys produce urine to excrete metabolic waste products like urea, uric acid, ammonia, bilirubin, and creatinine and foreign substances from the body like environmental toxins and metabolites of drugs"

I would just expand on what she'd give us based on her notes or what was in the book. I'd totally change what was written though, because it helped me translate it into my own "language". I also "taught" my dog a TON of stuff about the human body ;)

A lot of it is going to depend on how you learn best. Making flash cards, rewriting notes - it was all about repetition for me. That's how I learn best.

You'll do just fine though. A&P I and II were both a lot easier than I anticipated.

HI, I used anatomy gmc, crash course, khan academy. They are good youtube channels. And the book, of course.

I made lots of decks in Brainscape - it's by far the best flashcard app out there, and I tried just about all of them. The key with this one is that it lets you rate how well you knew each card 1-5, and will show you the ones you don't know more frequently. I was always able to learn 100+ anatomy cards in a day pretty easily. Also used it for our vocabulary lists and it helped a ton.

I don't know any apps. But I would suggest taking notes, and making flashcards. That's what I did. I noticed with me, writing my notes out, and them writing them again on flashcards helped me a LOT. Since I write them more than once it helps me remember. And I wouldn't suggest memorization. Make sure that you can apply the knowledge. For anatomy, like someone else said I took pictures of all the models and studied that way. EVERY single day. I spent at least 2-3 hrs a day studying. And once you start catching on, you may not have to even study that long. A&P II is a LOT of physiology. But it's really not hard. I got a 100 in A&P I lab & a 98 in lecture. In A&P II I got a 96 in lab and a 97 in lecture.
