Hey! New school nurse here and I'm working for a district that is severely lacking in the health services policy department. I'm wanting to start planning and running drills for anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest periodically throughout the school year (the trainer suggested 3 times, once with each new sports season). Does anyone here do something similar? Any recommendations for resources with sample plans or suggested considerations would be much appreciated. It's a bizarre world working as a nurse in a school district.

We don't but I think it's a great idea! Hopefully someone has some good resources for you!

The mock drills are usually in place and scheduled by the Director of Emergency Operations who orchestrate firefighters, Emt, etc. and one is already on DVD for review. I never heard of it being done with sports but it is a great idea especially if you have population of students with severe allergies. All of the coaches are trained annually in CPR and other staff who would like the training. Also we have athletic trainer student trainees who are drilled in this stuff.
Thanks! Me too.
Thanks! I do need to talk more with my admin on this. Unfortunately, my DON isn't all that on top of her position. Sweet as can be, but very spacey - like I thought she had early stage Alzheimer's when I met her. I want to start implementing a mock drill program that would be similar to mock codes you see in hospitals. In the district where my husband teaches they do city-wide mock disaster drills, complete with using the city and district police, staging at the primary campus with another campus used to divert students. It's wild.
