An "End-of-the-Semester" Poem

[Always_Learning, BSN, RN]

Right now I should be reviewing my notes,

But somehow I just find

That other, more important things

Are weighing on my mind.

Pandora, Facebook, MySpace, too,

Interfere with my diligent ways

And allnurses.com, you really don’t help,

‘cause I’m posting on here all day!

All right! That’s it! I’m focused now,

My notecards are spread out before me.

The binders, the outlines, the worksheets come out

In a blaze of highlighted glory.

And now I delve in to the alphabet soup,

GI, GU, CBC.

I’d love to have lunch, but I’m NPO

Pending my ERCP.

I have N & V induced by my stress,

My enzymes are all out of whack

I think all I need is caffeine TPN,

And maybe some chocolate – STAT.

But I’ll make it through; I’m sure of it

I’m devoted and true to my word

I’m incredibly focused and cannot be swayed –

“Ooh, look! Outside! It’s a bird!”

So it’s clear I can’t wait for the semester to end,

But maybe it’s just vanity

After all, a few weeks is a short time to wait

For the return of my own sanity!
