a & p

hello all

so, is the a & p series do-able w/out any

formal biology background? i've got my

ba but am trying to skip the entry level

bio to get things going.

The only biology I had was in high school - 15 years ago. A&P I was not that difficult. I am now on A&P II and while it's more difficult (to me) it has nothing to do with my lack of biology experience. It's just a matter of lots of info over a short period of time.

It's doable without a bio background....but the bio really helps. At my school the A & P sequence has a cell biology pre-requisite, so NOT taking bio first was not an option.

Bio was muuuuch more helpful in Micro than AP.

i guess of biology or anything in bio like A & P, would be hard if your not a BIO person and you dont really understand things well.

in high school i did sports medicine for a year then did an internship as a sports med assistant for a year. it really helped, i can still remember the organ systems (they are not difficult) bones and muscles and how they flex and stuff.

unfortunately bio was a prerequisite for any thing higher like microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology. so i HAD to take general bio just to get into a & p. I HATE PREREQUISITES! so i mean, if you think you can handle it then go ahead.

I minored in biology while in college (Bio I, Bio II, Ecology, Genetics, and Viral and Immunology) so now that I am in A&P I, I regret first and foremost not knocking it out with my minor, but I am way more prepared for the course than if if I had no extensive scientific background. Take it from a member of Tri-Beta (the Biological honorary society) and someone who tutored Biology for three years in undergraduate school- Anatomy and Physiology is VERY doable without taking general biology courses. The only thing the general bio courses will prepare you for is the first few weeks in A&P I, and textbooks in A&P review the majority of the info you needed from general bio courses in the first few chapters. The only problem you may run into is having to jump in with new material right in the beginning which means you have to be on your toes from day 1.
