Americare Institute good LPN school?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone! I'm Jessica & new to allnurses.com -In advance, I'm very pleased to meet you all:lol2:. Has anyone heard of or attended Americare Institute for their LPN program? If so, could you tell me about the cost, professors, exams -your total experience? I believe it's about $14,000.00, but is that cost with or without the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) grant? I would also like to know if you transferred courses to Americare Institute and which were accepted or not, such as A&P, Pharmacology, Medical Terminology, computer intro., etc.. And if Americare Institute is true to their word about not needing to take the TEAS test if you had transferred courses over.

I attend a Chicago community college where I have already completed my pre-nursing prerequisite courses, except one -which I will be taking in Spring 2008 and...well...I need my HS diploma or GED -which I will have soon (just not before the application deadline:uhoh21:). I will be getting my diploma through American School of Correspondence (yes, it is accredited and nationally accepted). I just want to get my foot in the "nursing door" and bridge-over when I complete Americare Institute.

Please feel free to let me know about other LPN vocational or community college programs within Illinois and not too far from Chicago or Chicagoland suburbs. Thank you much and have a wonderful new year:smiley_aa:yelclap::yeah::cheers::beer::bugeyes::balloons::jester::Melody::icon_hug::blushkiss!!!

So I am a current student at Americare and HellooooNurse, they do have financial aid now. It has really helped me keep the cost of the program down so I do not have to work full-time AND go to school. The only downside is that financial aid does not cover the cost of their pre-requisite classes, so I had to pay for those out of pocket (which I guess really isn't that bad). So far I have really enjoyed the classes but it is a lot of hard work. The teachers really seem to know what they are talking about and they expect the best out of their students. I was struggling with my A&P, but the teacher was more than willing to help me after class until I finally understood it. I look forward to starting Pharmacology and Fundamentals in a few short months :D

Hello MissPeachy, thank you for the insight; I've been wondering about this school for a while now. I've seen mixed reviews about it, but the financial aid part is outweighing the cons for me LOL. Is their financial aid through FAFSA? Are they grants for each semester? Is it a student loan? Also, I've taken numerous prerequisites at the City Colleges of Chicago, such as A&P I & II, Psychology, College Math, Computer Intro (which AmeriCare said they required last time), Pharmacology for Nursing, English Comp. I & II, and others...if AmeriCare accepts all, some, or most of these prerequisites, will financial aid (hopefully FAFSA) pay for the rest of the tuition???? Or the majority of the tuition???? And, is the TEAS entrance test still a requirement? THANK YOU MUCH!

OMG that's great that they have financial aid. They also have a new website. I guess I could have looked there first. There's a ton of info there. I'm gonna call and make an appointment with the FAFSA lady if I can. It will be such a blessing to have some of the tuition taken care of. I'll keep you guys posted!!

Oh, and Miss Peachy, who was your A&P teacher? I took A&P a while ago and had to take time off, so I will be starting Pharm and Fund in the fall I hope.

JessiBoopCNA, the financial aid is through FAFSA, but they also have other loan companies that you can use such as Sallie Mae and WIA I think. I qualified for something called the Pell Grant and that is money that I don't have to pay back. I dont know how I qualified for it, but I did somehow LOL Most of the students that I talked to have received this as well. as far as your credits transfering, I'm really not too sure. I know that all of my credits from Harper transfer over, so I'm assuming yours will too. Finacial aid covered almost all of my tuition, but not all of it since I had already taken out some loans before. And to answer your last question, the TEAS test is still a requirement (or at least it was a few months ago) but it wasn't too hard. I passed it on my first try without a problem. Good luck :)

WOW! I just got on this website and was curious to see if there was any info on my old school.

I graduated from Americare in July of 2009 with my LPN :D.....I have mixed opinions on it. My biggest issue with the school was the fact that they had the hardest time getting schedules out in a timely manner. I agree with keeplooking7 regarding that frustration. Other than that, it wasn't too bad. The teachers were decent, most of them were incredibly helpful and willing to go out of their way to help a student who was struggling. Of course there were a couple who weren't all that great, but that's at any school. Many of the students complained about the DON, I personally never had a bad experience with her but I did hear horror stories from some of the students who got on her bad side. Whether or not they were disgruntled classmates exaggerating, well, I don't know.

I have recommended Americare to a few of the CNAs that I now work with...Americare now has financial aid so I imagine the competition to secure a spot is going to be a little tougher than it was before. All in all, at the end of the day it was worth it. I'd most certainly recommend the info sessions and to give it a try! Feel free to PM me if you would like any information. I'd definitely go back if they had an RN.

hello,

I'm planning on attending Americare this fall while taking A&P this summer. My question is, i'm currently taking Eng 101, psychology, computer class, but I'm taking Introduction to Statistics which jon said it would be ok but i'm not too sure about it. Anybody have an insight on that be considered for a math class?

Thank You

I know a woman who is attending Americare and she did mention how disorganized it was when it came down to registration. Other than that she said it was o.k.
