American River College Fall 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! Thought I'd start a thread for everyone who is also applying to American River College for Fall 2016. We can help each other stay updated with any news, I know it definitely helps me through this long waiting period! We can also share knowledge if anyone has any questions about the application process! Good luck to all :)

From the ARC website

Application Qualified

The Nursing office has verified all the required supporting documents have been received. Student meets all program requirements and is qualified for selection. Students will remain in qualified status if not selected for program enrollment or as an alternate.

So we won't receive rejection letters?

I believe someone said they do send them, they just don't change your status on the website.

Sweet, got my QUALIFIED but not selected letter. I sincerely give congrats to those who got accepted, however.

I just got an email stating that my qualified app was not selected. attached in that email were statistics regarding the point distribution.

It will be nice to hear good news from Sierra, it's my first choice. If not, I'm still excited to start nursing school at Yuba college this August.

Thank you Jesus!!

Good luck to everyone ❤️💙💜👍🏼

Me too  but there is always next time!! Congrats to everyone that got it!!!!

I got the "not selected" email too. I really appreciate the transparency in the process at ARC and the abundance of information they provided. I actually got in at Sac City (yay!) but I'm not nearly as clear on how the selection process happened there.

The selection process at SCC is similar to ARC's process but there are some differences. Since you were accepted at SCC, I highly suggest you attend that program unless you have a very good reason to attend a different program, such as attending a BSN program.

Both SCC and ARC use a merit-based system to determine whose applications are qualified to enter the random selection pool. Once you're in the pool, it's very much random as to who gets accepted. The only major difference between the programs in terms of selection process is that SCC chooses all their students at one time instead of twice per year as they used to (and ARC still does). ARC is a little more forthcoming about their process, but really not much more so than SCC is.

Incidentally, since they're now sending out rejection letters, it means they've sent out all the primary acceptance and alternate letters. If by (small) chance not enough students decide to attend ARC, the program may send out a second round of acceptance letters but they'd weigh that with the possibility of going ahead with a small class and filling in with students that were rolled back.

I received the e-mail from ARC as well. I think it's nice that they include the statistics. I would love to know the statistics for SCC and Sierra as well.

Did anyone have their qualified points listed? I want to make sure that I have the minimum to qualify for the lottery next semester (70 points).

I do not believe that ARC lets you know if your point totals were correct, just that you qualified. With that said, I would try to increase your points if possible if you are unsure that you have 70.

I know I had the minimum points, even though sadly my degree was not on my transcripts this semester, but will definitely be on there for the Spring. Just one of those people who likes to make sure I dot my I's and cross my T's. [emoji6]
