American nurses association

Can LPN's join the ANA or is it only for Registered Nurses ?

No, it's only for RN's. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. Imagine the power they'd have with 800,000+ more members... A nurse is a nurse is a nurse, right??? I think it's a form of snobbery; nothing more.

No, but I think you can be an associate member or something. I dropped my membership because they really don't want non-BSN RNs either. Even though that will soon change, they can kiss it.

Yea I just googled it and it says I can join if I'm a student going for my RN . It does sound snobbish 😂 I really do want to join something some association for nurses I'm sure there's more.

The following is an excerpt from the ANA's website:

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is the nation's only full-service professional organization that represents the interests of the nation's 3.1 million registered nurses.

Take specific note of the ANA's mention of representing the interests of RNs. The ANA purposely fails to mention any advocacy efforts for practical & vocational nurses because the organization's figureheads do not really consider LPNs/LVNs as nurses, nor do they wish to promote the role of the LPN.

With nearly 800,000 actively employed LPNs/LVNs in the US, this stance is divisive. However, NAPNES is an organization that actively welcomes LPNs.

Thanks I'll look into Napness
