Am I too old?

Published

I am 33 years old and I would love to be a nurse anesthetist. I am still waiting to hear if I got into the nursing program. I know that I have a long way to go, but I am worried that I waited too long to start to school. Has anyone else started school late in life?

Hi,

I know this thread is old.....but. I thought I would comment. I just returned from a Phase 2 facility site interview for the Army CRNA program...... it was great, but....... my age was brought up 3x. by 2 prior service CRNAs and the director.......

I have 2 Masters of science, and I am a PhD student..........and I am a critical care flight RN (CCRN X2)........ I am 47. My age has never been a factor in my life until this interview......hum.

I have more stamina than most (a runner, lived in Africa for 10yrs/off and on, recently completed OBLC).

All I can say is that it is unbelieveable!!........and "lets take a run for the next hour or two".......will you even be near me? ......doubtful.

The oldest SRNA in my class is in his early 50's and the oldest MSN student at USUHS is in her late 50's, and by the way they are both Army.

Older than dirt, I find that disturbing. I suspect you are employed by the VA like I am and I am aware of that CRNA program and if things do not work out here at Pitt, that is my option #2. I am 40 and can still bench over 400lbs (mybe 500 with a little training instead of school) there are very few coworkers I have that are in better condition than I and that whole tone that you experienced makes me think about me EEO annual training.... I hope you get in the program and take them for a nice long run!!!

Hi CPTGAS,

Thanks for the encouragement. I hope I get in too! We will see. The age issue is distressing. I would hope it would not influence the "choice process", but I can't rule that out......Good luck with Pitt! P.S. I am not a VA employee, but a AR ANC....
