Am I good match for nursing?

You are the only one who can make the decision whether nursing will be the career for you. Have you tried shadowing a nurse for a shift? It can be a real eye opener and demonstrate that it's not always helping people and making a difference in their lives- especially on some of the floors where you see patients admitted again and again and again for the same thing because they don't take care of themselves outside of the hospital. I'm not saying that to discourage you, but to help you see the reality that nursing isn't always a feel-good experience.

I agree with Rose Queen ..you should definitely shadow a nurse for the day or volunteer at a hospital so you can see the "reality" of nursing instead of jumping in head first. I'm in the nursing program now and I wish I had shadowed prior to coming in "head-first". Nursing is not a Johnson Johnson commercial. You have your good side but you also have the other side. There's more to nursing than compassionate care such as knowing when to critically think and question a doctors order of Furosemide when the patients potassium level is 3.2. We do need more male nurses in this field !! I can tell schools love it when the male gets involved. If you ever decide to do nursing get a healthcare job after your first semester as a tech...trust me it'll help in the long run. GOOD LUCK !! :)

I definitely agree that it won't always be a feel good experience! I definitely want to try shadowing! I grew up in hospitals having had a couple heart surgeries and getting poked with a needle and seeing my blood never bothered me! Also I used to volunteer at the hospital in highschool at the front desk outside of the ER and patients would come in and collapse or be bleeding so I'd have to go tell someone. So I guess I realize nursing probably is not as glorious as I make it out in my head but I really don't know if I could see myself doing anything else. I already changed my major and I don't really regret it I guess my prenursing class have been challenging and I have enjoyed being pushed.

Male nurses are a lot in demand than us women. All the males in my class got hired right away. It's a solid profession and a lot of males are needed. I have seen them get hired in ED and ICU.
