  3. Hey guys im in my last semester of nursing school and I am just getting to the end, like im getting worn out to the point were I can like barely function anymore. This semester I have my synthesis (med surg 3) class and leadership class. They aren't to stressful, but clinicals are wearing me down. I have class monday and friday, and clinicals on tuesday. I also took on an extra clinical in the ER. Its been amazing but they didn't tell me until the week before that it was gonna be a night clinical. I also have my externship at the local hospital that I have to do one shift a week for. Ive been doing 2 day clinicals and 2 night clinicals every week. Plus on top of it my dad go diagnosed with cancer in december say for the last two weeks hes been up at a hospital two hours away getting his liver removed. My moms been with them him and Ive had to watch my little brother (12). Ive had to make sure he does his homework and gets to school and baseball practice ect.. and two days ago my grandpa got admitted to the hospital for sepsis and two days later my grandma for a fib with RVR. Im just so ready to quit!! I also found out I was missing a class for minor I have to make up. Anyone have advice for when the stress gets high?? I have no motivation ughh
  4. Im in the same boat, last semester, and so ready to be done!! don't give up we're almost there!!
  5. Whats up guys. This semester has just turned into a really rought patch for me. I am in my last year of nursing school and trying to finish out strong. We just took our first rounds of tests and I got a 96% on both my first med surg 2 and public health exams. Anyways everything was going awesome this semester until the last coupled days. My dad had been feeling sick and went to the hospital. In the ER the found a 5cm hepatic mass. I figured maybe it was just a cyst of something but three days later (Today) they found out it was a cholangiocarcinoma that had spread to his liver. This has been so stressful for me because I love my dad and also because my moms been just staying at the hospital and now I have been having to take care of my little brother. I have to get him to school everymorning and make sure he does his homework at night and feed him ect.. Any ways I have a huge med surg exam on respritory, endocrine, ect... and this person from last years class told us its the hardest test he took while in school. Im trying not to have a mental breakdown and study everyday. Anyone been through similar and have some advice?
  6. My hospital will take applications your last semester of school. Also I work as an extern so I will probably end up signing a two year contract at the beginning of my last semester. You absolutely still need an interview though.
  7. Meh in med surg she give us no study guides. Honestly doesnt even teach us. I have a study group and we just make our own study guides. We had two exams on monday and our study guides total were 125 pages haha
  8. Hey guys I have a question maybe someone could answer for me, I had a patient in my medsurg unit who has esophageal mass with metastasis to the liver. I am confused about his lab values. WBC: 12.82 Gran% 75.5 Pt also had a heightened PT time and Mono. Liver enzymes: AST 410 ALT 324 Alkaline phos 577 Total protein and albumin was only minimally lowered. To me those liver enzyme values seem rather insanse. From the research I did a metastatic liver would not cause levels that high. My guess is he has come form of cirrhosis? Didn't see that in the notes. During the H and P he mentioned a moderate alcohol consumption in the past but idk. Anyways do those lab values seem right with just a metastasis to the liver? Also primary Diagnosis I think I might do imbalanced nutrition due to liquid diet and evidence of weight loss, risk for impaired swallowing due to esophogeal mass, and Risk ineffective coping related to a new diagnosis of cancer. do those sound good? thanks!
  9. I swear if I know I have to be up early I can't sleep. It's currently 3 -' and I have to be up at 4 for my externship in the ICU. When I know I have to be up that early I can't sleep. Anyone else have that problem?? Also how do you stay awake during a 12 hour shift with no sleep?
  10. Idk Ive seen people have them that long while working at my externship. Plus we usually immediately clear the airway and give oxygen.
  11. so is this cause because your body is using up all the glucose during the prolonged seizure? Because don't SE seizures last for a prolong time like 20 minutes?
  12. or is it the hypoglycemia that is precipitating the seizures? My only other hypothesis is that maybe that during a seizure your body goes into flight or fight and your body starts using up all the glucose for energy? Sorry I get upset when I don't know the answer to things haha
  13. Okay guys maybe I am just stupid but I can't seem to figure this out. Why does a patient who suffers from a status epilepticus have a hypoglycemia during a seizure. I know we are supposed to monitor glucose levels during this but can't figure it out. Sorry I am studying for my pharmacology final and was stumped by this. I probably don't need to know for the final but now I am curious.
  14. Don't stress yourself out. school can be stressful but totally manageable. Just take it one week at time, figure out what needs to be done and do it!
