Am I eligible for a license with my background?

Nurses Criminal

Published

I want to go to nursing school? But am unsure if my record will prevent me from obtaining a license.

In 2001 I was charged with a DUI and pleaded it down to a DWAI (Driving while ability impaired) in Colorado. In 2005 I was again charged with DUI in NY and again pleaded the charge down to a DWAI. After that one I decided drinking wasn't for me and I haven't drank since, although I have no way of proving it. Once I quit drinking I went to college and earned a B.S. and now want to be a nurse, but am afraid that the board will not like me. Any thoughts?

I haven't contacted the boards yet. I'll do that Monday.

After some initial research, it would appear that neither of my DUIs can be expunged.

Well, I have some great news! I talked to about five different states' BON and they all pretty much said it shouldn't be a problem. The worst thing I heard was that I may have to be on probation for the first year. I'm going to school!
