Alzheimer Requirement

Hello,

I am looking into getting a Massachusetts nursing license by endorsement. At the bottom of the application, I noticed it mentions something about a dementia/alzheimer continuing education requirement (a one time thing)...where can I get this requirement? Even better for free. Thanks.

"Pursuant to chapter 220 of the acts of 2018, as of November 7, 2018, applicants for initial licensure must complete a one-time course of training and education in the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with cognitive impairments, including, but not limited to, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Notice: Verification of compliance with this requirement will be delayed until March 1, 2019.

Licensees applying to renew a license must complete the required course by November 7, 2022."

I'm a MA nurse; your post was the first I've heard about it. (So much for communication from the BON...) They recently mandated a domestic violence training. The MA DPH developed their own online one to do, but I haven't seen any indication that they're doing it for this subject as well. Seems like they're going to continue with the trend of micromanaging CE subject matter.

Look at their course list, and click on "state requirements", then choose your state. They usually have links to specific state CEU requirements and the courses they offer.

Oh my. I only found out I needed it when I got to tail end and it asked if I had that requirement. Lol

You can Google for free nursing CEU sites. There's tons of them out there...just make sure they're approved by your state's BON.
