I am trying to broaden my options.
Anyone have any ideas, stories, recommendations?
To pay the bills I am going to go agency, but I'd like to do "something" different, if you know what I mean.
Has anyone done this...(and PLEASE...don't mention Wal-Mart, LOL.)
:roll
Case Management varies from hospital to hospital, but it essentially means that the patients case is managed to assure that apropriate services are given.
Some case managers work on specific units such as a cardiac unit where they assure that the patients "flow" through the system (Pre-Op Testing and education, Admission needs, Cardio-Vascular Recovery, to Post Op Rehab), assess the patient for appropriate services and see that those services are provided.
Looking for something different?. I am doing something different.
I own my own business that pays me for any shopping and the shopping of others done at my online franchise. I have over 120 Partners stores that partisipate including Disney, IBM, Sony, The Better Life Institute, MCI, Nextel, T-Moble, Kinko's and OfficeMax to name a few. For example I have a few Doctors Offices, Small Business, and individuals purchasing Office Supplies from me and my association with OfficeMax (free shipping available).
I have no overhead, the entire infrastructure is already in place and functions without Employees, AR, Shipping, Recieving etc.
There are over 400 companies that have pooled their resourses to eliminate the cost of retail stores, making available discounts on products and services in the form of interactive commerce for the consumer.
As a Nurse, helping others has always been a part of who I am.
Saving people time and money is a great way for me to fulfill my need to help others.
As with any business it has it's challenges and owing your own business is not easy to say the least. But I have nerver found one as simple.
But what it boiles down to is:
Shop for your goods and services (Or) Shop for your goods and services and get paid.

After almost 20 years as a bedside nurse (Med/Surg and Nursery), my health forced me to re-think my professional goals. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 30 and bedside nursing was taking a toll. At about that time a job as a Case Manager opened up in the hospital where I had 15+ years. That opportunity has led to a job as Performance Improvement Coordinator at a sister hospital (lateral transfer - no loss of benefits).
Yep, its a desk job Monday - Friday 8 - 4:30, I work with all hospital departments in Performance Improvement and I am best friends with my computer, but I do get to eat lunch each day at about the same time and I can go potty when the urge hits.
I see no negatives with this job. I believe without a strong clinical background, I would not be as effect as a PI Nurse.
That is one reason I LOVE nursing... There is opportunity for everyone and when you need to move on, there is always something else to do.
I am grateful to be a part of a profession that allows me to continue to use my nursing skill when patient care is no longer an option.
