Why hello there, fellow students!
You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!
Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! " and "Competition!
" (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)
Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.
I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.
Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!
....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?
GOOD LUCK!
Stats:
Expected final science GPA: 3.67
TEAS score: n/a
Hello everyone I've kind of just been reading this and trying not to think that email should be sent soon. I've applied to both the full time and part time generic option. I really hope I can get into the part time because I am a school teacher and I am trying to continue teaching. My overall score is an 81. Good luck to everyone that has applied.
@Red I definitely did! In my head it's already my official schedule...Just waiting on that email.........
@Sara my friend is in the FT generic program and she said working 1-2 days a week is hard, but doable. I plan to work about 15 hours a week and have the option to decrease the hours if necessary. You can always do the PT option if you need to work...I've been considering it but I think I would rather just get the program over with...especially since I plan to further my education after graduating from MDC...
@lexi - They have it blocked so people like you don't chat online all day! Hopefully you have AT&T because they only charge an extra $10 when you go over
Sorry for delayed response. We just took our Med Surge final on Friday and 8 people failed from the program. Included in them was my very good friend in the program . I have been SO sad. We started with 50 loss 5 after Fundamentals and 8 in Med Surge. We are down to 37.
@JenesaRenae Carissa was absolutely correct about the 7 point scale. The lowest grade that you could make is a 77, anything under is failing.
@AllyWill2121 Even with my crazy life, I would still pick my AO especially with what I know now. In the AO program we have the same 6 professors for theory. They are the most helpful and supportive professors I ever had. They all have been with the AO program for 15+ years. They know their stuff! They are FULL TIME professors and they are completely devoted to the AO program. Generic professors could be part time professors and some even hold other jobs. I can not say enough of the AO professors.
To give a small comparison, some one in the generic group asked how many chapters was our first Fundamentals test on. I said 13. Their test had 5. We move very fast. When I chose the AO program I knew I was signing myself up for a year of no life. I worked too hard and invested too much time to get here. I say to myself suck it up and finish. I have no life, no money, and no time. But the light at the end of the tunnel is right up ahead. That being said, we just started our summer classes and wow! I have time to breathe now!
I mostly study by myself because usually its in the middle of the night. When I get the chance, I do study with several classmates. Thankfully, our class has a facebook page where we post questions, comments, study tips and tricks, and whatever other tidbits we think may be helpful.
Here is my schedule: When you look at the class schedule, it seems ok. But man, I am mentally exhausted! I have to pick up kids, cook, and whatever else. Saturdays and half of Sundays are the days I completely devote to my kids. My husband is usually off on Mondays and Thursdays. On those days I get to read/study earlier. I divide the readings and set goals for myself. I go to bed when I meet my goals. Thats what been working for me. Once you get in, contact me I could go over more stuff with you in detail =)
I was doing my clinics at Aventura Hospital. There are only 8 spots per clinic group. Make sure you register for your clinic first! At Aventura, I saw 4 new hires on the Med Surge floor and 2 were from Miami Dade. There are jobs out there, just do a good job selling yourself when you are there.
For those who wants to do AO and still work part time, I beg you to consider taking a leave....at least until you finish Med Surge. The program itself is stressful enough.
Good Luck to you all!

What happens to students that fail?? Do they get a chance to start over and retake the class?

I've mapped my entire schedule for AO. I need to do it for FT generic too just to compare. I can't decide where I want to do my clinical.
