Aloha Hawai'i Nurses

My wife told me tonight that she would be totally cool about moving to Hawai'i if I found a job there or on one of the other islands. I was like, Sweet! So, I was wondering, how hard is it to get a job? I have 9 months experience with long term care and inpatient oncology. Are there any particular hospitals on any of the islands who would take in a newer nurse?

It would be a dream to work and live in paradise. I'm an avid windsurfer and stand up paddler too.

Any tips or words of advice would be appreciated.

Aloha BigB; the jobs are scarce they say ... but you'll never know unless you come and try. We have new grads from several universities and community colleges lining the streets just waiting for someone to hire them. We have a good portion of foreign nurses who have moved here because Hawaii is similar to their homeland. Then we have all the mainland nurse with years of experience coming over ... oh and don't forget about the military spouses all of who appear to be experienced RNs.

If you don't set your expectations too high and get your foot in the door with that sparkling personality chances are you might make it. It takes a survival mentality to come out here and get an RN job.

You know as well as I that timing is everything. That one chance ... then again there are no guarantees in life but you'll never know unless you try. Come over for a vacation, go to Kailua Beach for a little wind surfing and meet people. That's how you really get in here in Hawaii it's many times not what you know but who you know.
