allied health vs. non allied health

I am getting to apply to nursing programs for an aas. I have run across schools that offer allied heath programs. What is this? Is one better than another? Will an allied heath progam prevent me from getting into a nurse practioner or crna program down the road? Thank you for any help

Allied health is a generic term that often applies to non-doctoral, generally non-nursing healthcare fields, such as EMS and respiratory therapy. If you're looking at advanced practice nursing, the nursing program is a better bet than any of the allied health programs.

As Eric notes, "allied health" programs are not nursing programs. If you want to be a nurse, get into a nursing program that will qualify you to sit for the licensure exam when you finish.
