Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Anesthesia interview

Nursing Students SRNA

Hi all,

Has anyone ever interviewed at Allagheny Valley in Pittsburgh before? Or is anyone interviewing soon? I searched the archives and found some old stuff, but I was hoping someone has interviewed recently. I interview in December.

I interviewed at Valley a couple of weeks ago. At first, the asst. director reviews the entire program for you and you can ask questions at the end. Then I interviewed with the program director. I was expecting to get dissected and sent home in a plastic bag, but it was not as bad as I imagined. She told me to relax as I'm sure I was bouncing in my seat! A few questions like how are you going to pay for school, bills, family, who's gonna watch the kids, etc. Then some clinical questions. She won't ask about something you have no experience with. I have cardiac and pulmonary exp so those I got several. A list of drugs was presented and I had to pick a couple to discuss. A few pulmonary physiology questions--which I thought I knew until I tried to discuss them out loud. She wants to stump you then see if you can reason your way through the scenario. Before I knew it, it was over. I was surprised that she didn't ask me more. Maybe because I was confident, even if I got a question wrong and then acknowledged it, or simply said "I don't know" that she took it easy on me. I guess if she smells fear or you try to BS your way through it then it could be bad for you.

After that, went back to the asst. director for the "why do you want to be a crna?" questions, strengths, weaknesses, etc. I have not heard yet although it's only been 2 weeks. They interview through march and said it could be then that we hear. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck to you!

I have interviewed and am accepted for this fall- everything you've all posted is true. It was the most difficult interview I've ever had, but in a good way. I think she just wants to see if you can reason well and know your job well. I too left the interview with no idea how I did, so don't lose heart if you feel that way. I can't wait to get started- both the director and the assistant directors seem great. I'd love to hear from anyone who's accepted! Good luck to the rest of you!

Good luck to the both of you. I haven't heard anything from Allegheny, but I was accepted somewhere else.

Congratulations, RealNurse419! To CABGx4, I'm from about 1 1/2 hours north of pgh, but will be moving closer. Do you know of any other students yet? Can't wait to get started!

Hey Y'all,

I interview with Allegheny on 2-23-12. I am flying out this coming Tuesday from Texas. Hopefully all goes well. Thanks in advance for the input on this thread. Hopefully, I will be joining you guys this fall. A bit nervous about moving up north, but I am sure I'll get used to it. Wish me luck! PM me if you have any special words of wisdom for me to follow.

I interviewed two days ago. The interview was definitely difficult. The director seemed really cool. It seemed as if she wanted to see how well you could reason a problem. Like others that went before me. I left not really knowing how I performed. All I can say is I had a blast in Pittsburgh and the folks at the program were very nice. Keeping my fingers crossed! How long did it take for you guys to get any word back about your admission status? Did they call or email?

I received my acceptance letter in about 3 weeks. If you get one, they'll give you about 2 weeks to submit a letter of intent and $1000 downpayment. good luck

I got in!!!!! PGH here I come! Hope y'all don't mind ridiculous Texans. (Just Kidding)

Congratulations!! Wow you found out fast too. My buddy in the program now said there are 13 people in so far but u must make 14. 3-10 guys/girls ratio not that it matters. Anyway I think it would be cool for us to get to know each other a little beforehand. I think I pm'd u before?? There will be a picnic (not mandatory) a couple weeks before the start. If u need any info on this area let me know. I live about 1/2 mile from the school. Lol take care and enjoy the good news!!!

I don't think I know how to PM on this system....or at least I don't think I can PM because my activity level is so "new". Definitely need help with the area....have no idea where to live. I have a wife and two kids. Wife is a nurse, looking for a place to live near a hospital she can work. Shoot me an [email protected]. I'll reply with my contact info, real name, etc. I'll definitely be going to the picnic....we are planning on moving up there sometime in early to mid June. Look forward to hearing from you.

I'm not sure if anyone still checks this but I'm 99.9% sure I want to be a CRNA and I've been looking at Agh/LaRoche's program. Is there anyone I can talk to that got into this program?
