Allegany College of Maryland (ACM)

Anyone successful complete lpn to RN through allegany college or in the nursing program how do you view your experience.

For clinicals, you find your own site and ask that they supply you a preceptor. Some facilities have you get your own preceptor. They do have contracts with some places. We start clinicals end of January in 2023, so I haven't started yet but I did find a local place. I didn't place that high on my entrance exam so I won't graduate until 2024.

But I do recommend the program. The professors are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Hi! question about clinicals. Did you stay in E. Texas or ventured off?

I stayed in East Texas. My clinical site choices were all within 45 mins to an hour from my home. A few people in the class I'm in are going to Houston. It sounds like they already work there because they were able to obtain their own preceptor. I don't know anyone in the big hospitals down there.

When did you start the program. And how long is the program for you. If one does score high how long will it be?

Thanks for the response; I am in Central Texas near Austin and Temple. I am hoping to ask Baylor S&W for clinical placement since they are approved from their list. How is the coursework? Are you still able to work FT or PT?

If you score at least a 700 on the exam you will be ranked with all other applicants based on the grades from the 10 pre-requisite courses and the conversion score on the LPN ADN Entrance Exam. Admission is a competitive process. See LPN to RN online website for more information regarding points. There are 100 seats available for the upcoming class. 60 for those scoring between 700-899 with the highest points and 40 for those scoring over 900 with the highest points.

I work a full time, Monday through Friday 8-5 nurse job. No issues with my study time or homework.

How long is the program?

Hey all.

does anyone know when we shall hear back about the decisions.

Needing 8 community hours for school. Facility doesn't have to have a contract with my school program. Just be willing to host me. Adult Day Care- any adult day care facility, Area Agency on Aging, Mental Health Adult Day facility, etc. Any leads or ideas are appreciated.

You need 8 hours for each? Or just for school. Have you tried reaching out to nearby school districts?

I misread your post. Sorry. I get it. I would try my best to contact all nearby areas and seek permission. Maybe try the biggest city near you and their surrounding areas.

thank you. I failed to mention I live in East Texas, between Dallas and Houston. Searched high and low and either the facility doesn't have nurses or can't have people "ride or tag" along.

I'm currently in the 3rd semester at ACM and don't have many complaints. Regarding the application and acceptance process, it was rather speedy. A lot of paperwork, transcripts and busy work. The entrance exam is relatively easy, I scored 807, maybe could have scored higher had I studied more, but it put me into NURS 150 (second semester) I did have to take the Summer transitions course also. It really helps with understanding the flow of the program. While in the program, I personally spent 2-3 hrs a day doing coursework, studying or practice testing. It is a lot but if you stay organized, is very doable. The tests are a bit different now due to the next gen NCLEX so ALOT of SATA questions which really mess me up personally. Professors have office hours every week via zoom and are extremely helpful and responsive to questions. One of the more difficult parts was locating clinical sites. For 150, I used my second job which was a skilled facility and had to go through the process of obtaining a clinical agreement between them and the school since they weren't affiliated prior. This semester was a bit more difficult finding pediatrics and mental health. A lot of facilities are weary of students without instructors (even if you are using a preceptor that works there) my plan B was always one of the facilities from the list ACM provides, even with being close to 1/1.5 hr away, it was worth the drive rather than the headache. Community hours are a lot easier, you just observe so there's no need for affiliation contracts or anything. Starting in fall of 2022, I will HOPEFULLY be graduating the end of fall semester 2023. Hope that helps all!
