Hi!
Entering second year of nursing school. During clinicals I basically clean my two patients, make beds. May give meds. What about the rest of you guys?

I'm first year and other than bed changing, bathing, and some med administration I've been able to witness a colonoscopy and a crazy dressing change in the wound care clinic.

During LPN clinicals I was fortunate to be in a great hospital. I got to watch a bowel resection, open heart surgery, a colonoscopy, transesophogeal ultrasound of the heart, toured the pathology lab, and watched a baby be born. On the floor we mostly did patient care and passed meds. Some were fortunate to practice skills if something like a foley needed to be inserted.
We also did physical assessments on all our patients, read charts and wrote a care plan every week on one or two patients.
I'm hoping that for RN clinicals I'll have more opportunities to practice skills.
wow thats alot itmejuli!
im in a RN program now..it just seems a little slow, it seems that the nurses are really busy, but they do have alot of patients where i only have two. during my maternity i was able to witness a c-section. i do read thru the charts, but it really looks like gibberish, the handwriting is soo hard to decipher! (lol) i want MORE from clinicals i guess..sigh

Hey Everyone I have a really important question. Are the any CNA programs in or around the sacramento area that are 21 days or less. I don't have time to go to school for 4-6 months again. I need something FAST, money is no object, I just need to know the quickest route possible. If anyone has any names of some school like that please reply to this message.
Thanks in advance,
and God bless

divine, please start your own thread. What you're doing is called threadjacking and considered impolite on message boards.
OP, if you want more from clinicals, push for it. Ask your nurse to show you cool stuff. Offer your help to people on the floor. Ask your instructor if she will let you do X, Y or Z.
divine916..im going to assume that your new and didnt realize that you interuppted a thread..this is what you do...go to the tab that says regions, go to CA..then you start to narrow it down a bit..OR go to CNA discussion board...we couldnt help you on this thread, b/c we're all from different areas!
@trailerpark! thanks yes i know..what i find myself doing most of the time, is walking from room to room to talk with other patients and see if they need anything or help my fellow compadres..unfortuantely my clinical instructor is truly worthless, and basically likes to bull-#*# all morning talking about her alcoholic children (i kid you NOT)!
