All the Organic Chem professors have a bad rating

Published

Okay, i dropped Micro and decided to take Organ Chem, Human Anatomy 1, and Psychology. After that I only have about 3 pre reqs to go before I can apply to a nursing program

Anywho, all of the organic chem professors have a BAD rating on ratemyprofessor.com. I mean, REALLY bad rating. And my school does not have that many Organic chem teachers. I registered for the lesser of the two evils because I need to take this so I can make progress and finally try to get into a nursing program

Any advice on Organic Chem anybody? I am really scared because it seems like the tougher the subject, the more harsh the student ratings get

You know what? It's not a great idea to read the stuff that is written on those rating boards. They are written by disgruntled students. Happy students don't tend to go to those sites. Just take the course and make your own decisions about the instructors. You will need the chemistry in your later nursing studies, so make it your own responsibility to learn as much as you can. Go in with a positive attitude. I you find yourself in trouble, get help.....from the instructor or from a tutor.

Best wishes to you, and enjoy the chem class - it's great stuff!

Do you really feel that tutoring will help someone understand Organic Chem more?

Not all posts on ratemyscumsuckingprofessors.com are done by unhappy students. I found the site VERY handy when doing my prereqs at a local community college. It allowed me to select profs (if at all possible) who had a decently balanced rating. I made a point of also leaving positive feedback when appropriate, so future students got one more opinion of a given professor.

Ha ha.. I agree. I used this site a lot whenever I was working through my associates degree and Bachelor's. I chose my classes based on the ratings and I never disagreed too much with them. I also left feedback, positive and negative based on my own experiences with the professor.

My husband is taking a MS in criminal justice and the ratings of his professors are exactly right.

I went back to http://www.ratemyprofessors.com and found this video from a professor striking back at some of the students who gave him poor ratings... It's not very professional, but it's funny and he has some great points. It runs for several minutes..

O-Chem is a tough class, and I suspect many of the rating are from (great descriptive word) disgruntled students. I would go with the professor with the highest of the "grades" and ask for help and tutoring when you need it. Also, form study groups with your fellow students. I found this extremely helpful when going through this course last semester.

I think so. I found chemistry difficult and the only thing that saved me is that I am good at math. If you find a tutor who really enjoys chemistry and understands the topic well, I think you may not find it so difficult. The teacher I had really did not have much time for the people who struggled, and they were the people who needed his help the most.
