I am presently struggling with getting the correct study guide for NCLEX R/N.
Please give feedback on the Saunders review and state the title of the book, the edition and all it should contain.
Also i need emotional support right now because someone unintentionally scared the living daylight out of me re the examination. After i did it twise and failed, as a foreign nurse i am scared and getting cold feet. I need to hear from any one who can offer words of advise. thank you.

Well I used a variety of resources for the nclex and I just passed this week with 75 questions:) . So I used :sofahider the Saunders 3rd ED, nclex 3000, saunders cd, Learning ext(quizzes), Mosby CAT ver. 2.0, Kaplan book(not review). I read the whole Saunders and made notes from each chaper or pyramid points. I read my notes at night. I did the CAT to 150 questions it gives you a percentage of pass at 75 questions then at 150 it gives you a break down of your weaknesses:chair: . The key is to find out where you are weak and then concentrate in those areas, do a diagnostic test to break it down for you:) . Then concentrate your questions on the CDs in that area. I think finding out where you are weak is more important then the review book. Also I studied a little each day for 1 month and 2 weeks. You can do it:rotfl: !! Dont listen to negative people :angryfire I never did in school it wont help you to accomplish your goals. Surround yourself with positive people that love :redbeathe you:icon_hug: .
Hope this helps ,

thank you for your kind words and i an really happy for you. right now i am responding in tears because i so want to pass it for the third time. My husband is very supportive but i feel so alone sometimes trying to get a grip on this thing. you see i know very few people here because i am new to the U.S. It is just over whelming trying to adjust to the culture and trying to get my life back when all that is keeping it from me is a miserable exam. i miss nursing so much sometimes that i feel better just pretending i am O.K being an at home mom. I do love my kids; i just need to do something i enjoy and nursing is my life and all i know to do. thank you so much for your words of encouragement and please keep in touch. my email is [email protected].

i recommend that you take the kaplan. everyone i know that took the kaplan review was thrilled with it and felt they were totally prepared. also, do you know why you failed the first 2 times? whatever your weak points are you should work really hard on. good luck!
well, all it said was near passing standard in all areas, so i really do not have a clear guide line. however, i know drugs is an area of weakness and that i am working on right now. Basically i am reviewing all areas and answering lots of questions. what Kaplan are you refering to. Is it NCLEX in the box for foreign trained nurses. Can you specify?
kaplan is a company that has a review class for the nclex rn. i believe the class meets for two weekends and then you can go to the kaplan centers and access more nclex practice material on their computers. i don't know where you are from or if there is a kaplan's near you, but i'm sure that you could do a search on the internet and find out. if you can't do kaplan though, i did use the saunder's book and found it helpful. i don't remember the exact title, just make sure it says saunder's and nclex rn review. the book that i used had the info broken down into different chapters on each system/subject, would have a nice outline for you to read and then a test at the end of the chapter. that helped me alot, it refreshed alot of things in my mind that i had forgotten from school. when i took the nclex, there were questions on there that i know i wouldn't have known had i not studied saunder's.
i am in Orlando, Florida and ther is not one close to me but on line has a course specifically for foreign nurses so i will look into it further. Thank you kindly for your suggestions.
I feel your situation because I too am a foreign trained nurse too from Canada. I graduated in 2003. I took nclex once and failed, that destroyed me. So after a while, I got a nurse mentor and she helped me, I know the content, but I have bad test anxiety. I have heard mixed reviews of Kaplan, so I got the feuer home study package with 13 booklets and 25 audio cds, it was well worth the money. I am more confident now in taking and passing the nclex. I would love to help you out, if you need more nclex cds, like kaplan question trainer with 7 tests, Lippincott's 7th ed., saunder's 2nd ed. You can trade nclex cds with me. Also if you the feuer home study package, just e-mail me [email protected] and we will work something out so that you feel more prepared to pass nclex this time. I am a member of a nclex study group on yahoo, just e-mail [email protected] to become a member. We share questions and tips.
Hi supernurse, it is so good to know and hear from someone who is foreign trained and have poor test taking skills as i do. i think part of my problem is i may be so anxious that is see the questions be have difficulty processing them. as i recall, i sat infront the computer and saw a lot of questions but it was like being in a dase trying to answer one at at time. I did send that email for the support group. The Feuer home study;i will send you an email and we will talk. what i have is Lippincott Med/sug. 3rd edition, Kaplan 2002-2003 edition, the princeston review, and NCLEX R/N by NSNA 4th edition. All these books provide review of body systems, drugs etc. the CD i can trade is the Lippincott. the other C.dhave problems. i had to contact the company and they should send a replacement. thank you for offering your help.

Have a look at www.medspub.com They do a 4 day live review course and I'm pretty sure there's one scheduled in Orlando at Florida Hospital some time in May.

Hi tina; no i have never heard of this site but i will check it out. thank you.
i checked out the web site and they seem to have good stuff. i cannot afford the live review because i am unemployed for the last 3 yrs and being a foreign nurse who is actually here for that same period of time, i do not have much financial support. thank you anyway and God bless you.
