Parent's word trump the doctor's. You can try to explain to her the importance of it, but if she persists on him not having it before exercise, then she's boss. Parents know their kids, so maybe she's doing it for a reason. As long as you have it documented to cover your butt, you should be fine.
Why did the mother submit orders to you that she want followed? That makes no sense to me.
I respectfully disagree with the previous poster. If the parent refuses to consent to a treatment, I would not carry it out. Parents have the right to refuse treatment for their children. You should notify the physician that the treatment is being refused, however, just as you would in the inpatient setting.

And I would then ask the parent to contact the MD to to get the written order the way they want. It will be interesting to see if they follow through with the request, and if the MD honors the request.

i have a parent requesting not giving her child albuterol before exercise despite the dr's order requesting it. I had mom write down what she wants and documented it. Is it okay? Is there anything else that you need to do?
