Information on Lawson wallace and jeff state nursing programs

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi, if anyone reads this, I have a few questions for people that have already been through the nursing process or are going through it now. I have all my prereqs completed. I have a score of 181 according to jeff state, but Ive been told that every college is different on how the score you. I have been told that wallace and lawson state are admitting people in their nursing programs with these scores, I hear jeff state cut off is around 185. Do any of these schools admit during the summer? I missed the cutoff date for applying anywhere for the spring. What kind of scores would I need to get into the summer or fall of 2010 at each of these schools if you had to guess, I just dont want to waste any time. I live in birmingham so each of them wont be that big of a deal to drive to. Any information on herzing or Bevill??? Is it easier to apply for LPN as far as just "getting in"???

The cut-off for the spring semester at the Jeff State (Shelby campus) was 185, last year the cut-off for the summer semester was 184. I don't know anything about Lawson, or Wallace...hope this helps!

I think Jeff State generally requires a little bit of a higher score to get into. I had a friend that got into Wallace with 155 (she failed out twice). Jeff State admits during the summer.

Jeff State admits during the summer, but from the experiences of my classmates, I would definitely not advise beginning during the summer. Starting during the fall is ideal as far as length of time allotted in relation to amount of coursework necessary. I have a friend @ Wallace got in w/ 165 (4 semesters ago, and has failed this past semester and been allowed to repeat w/ 140 pts.idk now) and a friend admitted to Lawson with 170 and shes currently in her second semester. This class for Spring 2010 Jeff State Shelby is the largest yet and they say it will only continue to grow and become more competitive. Those who failed their first semester with my class were not allowed to reenter the program due to space limitations. I think about 20 failed first semester, so it is not something to be taken on half halfheartedly. If you want an easier program, def. stick with Wallace or Lawson. But don't think employers don't take note of this when reviewing your application. I just got a job @ Shelby while finishing nursing school, and the woman who interviewed me said she'd choose a Jeff State nurse over any other school (UAB, Samford, Wallace, Lawson, etc.) any day of the week because of the caliber of nurses the program consistently produces. It depends on how much effort you're willing to put it, but with jobs as scarce as they are, I would try my best to attend Jeff State over the other 2. --Jeff state now requires math 100 which is more difficult than math 116. If it's your compass score that's bringing down your points, try to retake it and score higher. Thats the easiest way to bump your points.

Thanks for all of your input. I defenitely would like to stay at jeff state because its only 15 minutes from home, and like you, I always hear the credibility of jeff state nurses tops other schools as well. I have a 80 in my coursework and the 11 points for math 100. which brought me to 91. and my compass test score I think was a 90. Im retaking the compass and retaking a biology to try and get the 30 pts instead of the 20. If somehow I get the A and could do betteron the compass. surely i would get in somewhere. all my prereqs are completed so maybe that would help. thanks again.

Wallace does not accept a nursing class during the summer, only spring and fall. I would check out the Alabama Board of Nursing website and look at NCLEX pass rates for the schools you are considering attending. That will tell you alot about the caliber of nurses graduating from the program. Good luck on getting into the program you choose!

I'm a graduate of Wallace State and I was told by my interviewer, now boss, that she prefers Wallace State grads over other schools. I've always wondered if this was something said to everyone about whatever school they attended. I will tell you this, I was treated very well as a Wallace student in most all of my clinical experiences and am proud of my accomplishment. I have heard the rumors about this school or that one and can only comment on Wallace since I never attended another nursing program. It was not easy, but I learned a lot and feel like I made a great decision. Wallace takes new students in the Spring and fall semesters. Good luck! I hope you love your nursing program. You will spend a lot of time with those instructors and fellow students!

What kind of scores did you get into the program with as far as points if you dont mind me asking. I heard wallace was a little easier toget into because they admit more people in. thanks for your input on wallace, ive had alot of people recommend wallace to me.

I got in with 192. Wallace does accept more students than other schools I've read about, but we did lose a lot of students the first semester. Some decided it wasn't for them and some didn't pass classes, usually Health Assessment. I never felt like we had too many students or didn't get the attention we needed. A lot of instructors were very eager to help us and had study sessions outside of class for those who wanted to attend. One thing about Wallace that I love, and didn't know about in the beginning, is that in our last semester, the instructor in charge of setting up your preceptorship works really hard to get you into the area you want to be in. This is a huge step towards you finding a job. Consider it a 90 hour job interview! I know more than one instructor who went out of their way to help students secure the jobs they wanted.

thanks so much for the info. sounds like wallace is a good place for me as well. I've heard from alot of people that most all wallace nursing directors are very helpful and nice where at jeff state its hit or miss. just today i have finally somehow raised my compass to a 93 so I should have a 192 according to jeff state on their points scale so im finally feeing good about my chances getting in somehwere.

I'm a student at Lawson, finishing up my last semester. I don't remember having to have a score, they basically looked at the classes I had taken (did my prerecs at Jeff St), took my GPA into consideration, and had me take the reading compass test. You can apply in the summer, but I would not recommend it. I would recommend the fall semester coming in. As far as the LPN school, you would be in for 3 semesters, then have to work so many hours b4 u could apply in the mobility program. My recommendation is to apply for both, making RN your 1st choice. If you still have questions, you could call the schools and speak w/ someone in the nrs dept. Another suggestion is applying to multiple school...what harm would it do? Hope this helps! :icon_roll:stdnrsrck:

Im a little confused about the admission process at Lawson. My situation is quite odd. I have a BS in Biology and would like to obtain an ADN. Grades are average and I haven't taken anatomy. Will I need to take the anatomy course before being admitted to the actual nursing program, or is this class rolled in with the nursing program? Please help. Im totally confused.....
