Graduates of Lawson State
That's why it's optional. That includes the dress, cap, pin, lamp, and pics (which I'm not doing). I wasn't going to do it at first, but my family has been pushing me to do it and I feel that if I don't, I might look back later and wish I did. Plus, I love the special attention. Might as well lavish in it lol! P.S. Not really crazy about the cap thing though!

Graduates of Lawson State
We just had our 1st meeting about the pinning ceremony, and now they are telling us that we have to buy the nursing dress from LeJoy's. Sinks for us b/c we have the old uniform style, which won't work. So we all have to buy new dresses. A good bit of my classmates are declining the pinning ceremony b/c of this. I have decided I really want to participate in it! Sad to say though, it's gonna cost me b/w $100-150 to buy all the accessories. WOW!

Helpful Tips for the Nurse Traveler
I'm kinda new to this whole bulletin thing, but I'll give it a shot. I'm in my last yr of nursing school and need to do a presentation. I decided to do it on Travel Nursing: Pros & Cons. The main reason I chose this subject is b/c I'm very interested in travel nursing. However, I'm having trouble finding info to help me on my project. Do y'all know where I could find some info on this subject? Reading your stories have inspired me to really consider it once I get settled in a particular area after graduation! Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Preceptorship in Express Unit. What is that?
I'm not sure if everyone else got what they requested. I know the 3 of us who chose the same hospital didn't get the units we signed up for. Last semester we were given a list of hospitals, told to pick 3, the unit we wanted, and the time slots we wanted to work. I believe most ppl in my class chose med-surg.

Preceptorship in Express Unit. What is that?
I completely understand. Wow...ICU? I did ICU 1 clinical rotation, and will not do it again. It was probably b/c I had 1 patient and was so bored! I like to move around and do multiple things. I've done med-surg plenty of times! Guess we will both suffer through our preceptorships

Preceptorship in Express Unit. What is that?
Found out today that Express Unit is an area patients are kept until a bed becomes available in the area they are being admitted into. Still a broad spectrum of different diagnosis, and still unsure of my objectives, but hopefully I won't dread it. :chair:

Preceptorship in Express Unit. What is that?
For my preceptorship, I requested maternity, since I haven't received a fair amount of time on that unit when I did my clinicals (I worked well baby nursery w/ no babies). I received my preceptorship area today...express unit. What in the world is an express unit? My instructor said it was something about where patients come in and get assessed and go home w/in a couple of hrs. Ummm....I need to come up w/ some objectives for this and have no clue as to what I will be doing. I didn't even know something like this was available b/w the hrs of 7pm-7am (which is what I requested). I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this? I was looking forward to preceptorship....WAS looking forward

I know, I have gone broke just getting thru school! They don't ever stop asking for money! You won't need to buy the dress till ur last semester, unless u prefer to wear dresses at ur clinicals. Then u have to wear the one from LeJoys. Good luck on ur test! Hope u do well!

If u r buying a dress 4 clinicals, u would have to buy the style LeJoy's has. They haven't given us any specifics on what type of white dress to wear 4 the pinning, they just said it had to be a white dress. I too attend the Bess campus nite classes. Thankfully I'm in my last semester! Yay! Hang in there and study hard!

Are u at the Bessemer or Bham campus? I'm in my last semester and they told me the same. There is a place on Bess Super Hwy called N&N. I might try there closer to the ceremony and see if they have something cheap.

Information on Lawson wallace and jeff state nursing programs
I'm a student at Lawson, finishing up my last semester. I don't remember having to have a score, they basically looked at the classes I had taken (did my prerecs at Jeff St), took my GPA into consideration, and had me take the reading compass test. You can apply in the summer, but I would not recommend it. I would recommend the fall semester coming in. As far as the LPN school, you would be in for 3 semesters, then have to work so many hours b4 u could apply in the mobility program. My recommendation is to apply for both, making RN your 1st choice. If you still have questions, you could call the schools and speak w/ someone in the nrs dept. Another suggestion is applying to multiple school...what harm would it do? Hope this helps! :icon_roll:stdnrsrck:
