Gadsden State Community College RN Hopeful - Fall 2011

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi all,

New to the forum & just curious:

Anyone else out here applying to GSCC for the Fall 2011 ADN program? Or recent grads from GSCC that can give some "general" pointers?

I took the paper & pencil version. After taking it, I knew I should've taken it online. Would've had my results instantly & not had to sit thru it for 4 hours.

Sitting there for 4 hours was for the birds. That's why im doing the computer test this time plus get your results right then. I have this study manual but can't seem to make myself use it. I'm taking the test Friday morning

Which study manual? The ATI one?

yep...its a monster too ....:lol2:

Yes and I have heard that over 800 applied last year.....:(

I'm in my second semester at Gadsden and that is what we were told at orientation last Fall. I think they accepted around 130 for our class.

I know I have to find another job if I am accepted. I can't just quit working. I have already been trying to find jobs that I could work if I got accepted but no such luck yet. I'm going to cross that bridge when it comes I guess. I like the job I have now but not sure how much they will work with me going to school during the day. Do you know what the schedules are like once you are in nursing classes? Is is monday thru friday like 8 to 3 or 7 to 3 ?? I know down the road there will be clinical days also. I wish there was someone in it now that I could ask questions to but I don't know anyone and I am not from around here.

I'm in my second semester at Gadsden. They tell you to be very flexible in school and that is true. We had about a week's delay this semester because of the snow which had some people making up clinical days.

I took 104 in the summer before I started last fall and I recommend that you get 104 and/or 103 out of the way in the summer term if you can.

I took 103 in the fall semester and really liked it. It is basically anatomy/physiology with a lot of assessment. I thought it really helped to have an understanding of anatomy while in that class. 103 ended in October and you had to have at least a 75 to continue onto clinicals. If you failed 104, then you couldn't go on to clinicals, and then couldn't pass 102 (the clinicals are for that class). 103's material is all online and the professor records the lecture and posts in to Blackboard. 103 is a lab class where you learn how to complete assessments and at the end you have to demonstrate a head to toe assessment on one of your classmates. We had quizzes before each lab and then regular tests throughout the semester. I think lab was about 2-3 hours and met one day a week every week until mid-Oct.

102 is Fundamentals and we met on Wed from 8-3 with an hour for lunch. 102 Clinicals met once a week for 4 different times. I think you met either on Mondays or Fridays for those. I met for 3 Mondays and then 1 Friday. They start at 6:45 am and meet for 9 hours (if I remember correctly). 102 also has a lab that meets once a week for about 2-3 hours.

Oh, what great insight!! Thanks for posting!

Do tell though...how long did it take for you to find out that you were accepted? And how HARD was it to get accepted? The nursing advisor has said that it could be the end of May before we find out. I'm hoping to get accepted so that I can do 104 this summer.

I found out right after Memorial Day last year. I was lucky and was accepted the first time I applied. I know that some of my classmates had applied more than once before they were accepted. I had all my sciences, math, etc. completetd before I applied. I recommend doing 104 in the summer, if possible, just so you can devote more time to 102. I took it at the Centre campus and we met on Mondays/Tuesdays from 9-11:30.

Well, this is my first time to apply so I'm hoping to "get lucky". I have everything done except for A&P II & Micro. My TEAS score was good & with other points accumlated, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

We still got a long time to keep our fingers crossed....they are permanently going to be stuck that way....lol

I just spoke with (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) from Gadsden State yesterday and she said letters would go out by the 2nd week of June... I am going nuts here wish they would send the letters out...
