Gadsden State Community College RN Hopeful - Fall 2011

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi all,

New to the forum & just curious:

Anyone else out here applying to GSCC for the Fall 2011 ADN program? Or recent grads from GSCC that can give some "general" pointers?

yep that's me..what's your name? I "overheard" someone in my A&P II saying they made a 101 on the TEAS but i'm seriously doubting it. She has not been making A's in A&P II so i'm thinking it was a lie about what she made on the TEAS. I just can't see anyone making that high unless they are a genius. I bombed on the math also but that was expected i've never been good in Math. The science was if you were wanting to become a chemist or scientist not a nurse. It was ridiculous. I am soo hoping to get in. I'm just so worried because I want to know what am I suppose to do for a whole year if I don't get in this fall? Just sit and wait ...i'll go bananas plus that's a waste of time. I considered applying for LPN also but I so want to just go straight into RN. I hate to say it but time needs to hurry up so I can put my mind at ease and stop worrying about getting in or not. I've heard some say its hard to get in and some says no its not. I have no idea who is right and who is wrong. I added up my points with my current TEAS test and it just didn't seem like a high enough score considering the most you can have is 251 (I think if I remember correctly).

Also, I talked to Pam Mayo. She mentioned that they're taking 120 students into the program.

Yes and I have heard that over 800 applied last year.....:(

Adonis (Doni) Boozer. :) Nice to meet ya!

Honestly, there's no way to make MORE than a 100% on the TEAS. However, if she made 101 out of the 150, she made a 67.3%. So um, I'm guessing the latter but who knows. The math was a breeze for me & I've been out of high school for 20 years....LOL! Girl, I'm SO hoping I get in too, because like you....I'm wondering what in the WORLD I'd do for another year until the next application period. I did, however, go ahead & apply to the LPN program because NUR 102 thru like...NUR 106 will be required also so I figure if I dont get into the RN & do get accepted into the LPN, I can go ahead & get those out of the way then transition over, ya know? Stinks though because they will only be taking 40 students into the LPN program.

And yes, the wait to find out just may be the death of me! :lol2:

well you do make a point maybe I need to appy for LPN also. The deadline is different isn't it? So if you get accepted into LPN and RN you just tell them you are going into RN instead?

Yep...you'd then have a choice & they could allow someone else to move into the LPN program. Deadline for LPN is May 1st.

I totally hope nowhere NEAR 800 apply this time!

My thoughts on that this time is that some people may apply and not realize they had to take the TEAS test to be considered. Since this is the first time they are requiring that test for applying. I am secretly hoping that it causes some applications to be tossed because they haven't taken the TEAS....i know that sounds bad but I can't help it..if that does happen to people they should have read things better. Some people may be still going by what was previously required. You know some people don't follow directions too well and may miss that.:lol2:

LOL...we think just alike so if it's bad, we're both bad!

Good makes me feel better i'm not in the boat alone.....LOL :D BTW...what did you take for humanties? I was taking spanish...(that was a joke) I actually still have to go withdraw from that class. I thought it would be helpful but it was just too much to take on along with A&P II and my two online classes plus full time job. So for my humanities I'm going to take something a lot easier. Probably art appreciation.

My humanities was Art Appreciation...which I transferred from when I first attempted going back to school about 6 years ago. Sounds like me, my plate if definitely full & if I get accepted, I'm gonna have to quit work or find something part-time because a full-time job will be IMPOSSIBLE if we get accepted.

I know I have to find another job if I am accepted. I can't just quit working. I have already been trying to find jobs that I could work if I got accepted but no such luck yet. I'm going to cross that bridge when it comes I guess. I like the job I have now but not sure how much they will work with me going to school during the day. Do you know what the schedules are like once you are in nursing classes? Is is monday thru friday like 8 to 3 or 7 to 3 ?? I know down the road there will be clinical days also. I wish there was someone in it now that I could ask questions to but I don't know anyone and I am not from around here.

My job has let me leave early on Tuesdays & Thursdays for class. I've BEEN looking for another job because a) I hate my job (sounds bad, I know...but I do NOTHING!) and b) if I get accepted, I will be throwing NUR 103 & 104 in the mix this summer & with taking A&P II AND Micro (along with the 2 nursing classes), I will NOT have much time "daytime" wise to hold a full-time day job. Go to G's website & click on "course offerings". Look at Summer 2011 & choose NUR course & it will show you what it's looking like. Nothing is pulling up for Fall, as of yet. I think the first clinical will be with NUR 102 & there will be like one day of the week you're in class for a few hours & an entire day of clinical (for that course) during the same week.

So I guess i've missed something. If you get accepted you can take those nur classes in the summer? I didn't think you started those till the fall semester or did I read that wrong. Oh I know it will be hard but i will have to find some type of job because financially I can't quit working.:uhoh21:
