Air Force Reserve VS Active Duty Air Force

Hello all,

As some of you may know, I have been readying my application for the Active Duty Air Force since June 2010. On a whim in December 2010 I decided to call the Air Force Reserve Recruiter to see what jobs were available. He set up an interview and it went well and the unit would like to hire me as a Flight Nurse. The recruiter told me that I am pretty much guaranteed the job. I have already filled out all the paperwork and he is getting copies from my Active Duty Recruiter. Right now I plan to submit both my packet for the Reserve and to the Active Duty. I really want Active Duty, but I am unsure of how many nurses that they will be taking at the fully qualified board in June 2011. Should I go for the Flight Nurse position and then transfer over to Active Duty? Is this very difficult? Trying to figure out what route to take...

Thanks,

Well, I'm hoping for ya! Either way we got a good chance of winding up at COT about the same time! I'm in the exact same possition, except I don't know just yet...any day about the reserves (have been told it will happen likely by the end of this month) BUT now I should wait, just in case...sigh...this is taking a LOOOONG time  We'll have to keep in touch! :yeah:

I would have been able to accept the flight nurse position and commission and then send my package to fully qualified active duty boards, but the approval process took too long, so it is on hold. 6 weeks until I know. (BTW you should visit airforceots.com sometime. Lots of great info about the air force there. BTW recruiter asked me if I wanted to put down the October COT date as my first choice.... but I decided on January seeing as October would give me just shy of 60 days to get everything in order.

Thanks! Will do! I worked last night and off to bed for a bit to go back tonight..It will give me something to do. Yeah, mine would have BEEN done, but it accidently got held for about a month on a desk, awaiting some paperwork from the clinic...drama, then they got aware of the problem and it was handled between friday and a tuesday! Believe me I was on that recruiter like white on rice! He said I'm not the only one in this possition, but when my package didn't come back to him before Denver...he smelled a problem. Luckily it was human error/ drama and it was fixed:) I would have had that answer by now, too. So ANY day now:) I go the email from Denver last friday about being tentatively accepted with the bonus pay...so it's on it's way:) I just hope I can hang for the board to finish it's active duty selections !!!! Thanks again:)

Hi Tina! You sound like my process..drama and my paperwork sitting around a desk..it took me 20 moths from start to finish..hopefully I get to in process next month! keep us up to date you never know..I might see you in COT :)
