air force officers and politics

I am hoping to join the Air Force Nurse Corps soon. My recruiter said the board is meeting in January 2011, so I've got a little while, but I've got a question. I've heard from many people that being an officer in the military is just a lot of politics. Can someone explain this to me please? I'm not against politics but I'm also not really interested too much in them. I just want to be a nurse, so I'd like to be prepared for the political side as well if need be. Also, I'm a new grad and would be going to NTP, and I was wondering if your family goes with you to NTP or do they have to wait til you go to your duty station? Thanks so much for any help.

The military, like any large organization. has its own type of "politics" that goes along with the territory. The extent to which one is "political" does have an impact eventually on one's military career but should not be foremost in your mind over job performance and meeting advancement goals.

I'm an in the AF nurse corps, and to me, the degree to which one is involved with politics/drama is up to the individual. Dependents are not authorized to travel with you to COT. They can go with you to NTP only if NTP is at you permanent duty station.
