Air Force Nursing selection boards

Published

Does anyone know how often the USAF nurse corps selection board meets for each FY?

I'm an RN-BSN with 7.5 years experience (L&D, NICU and Pedi). I know the application process takes some time, but am thinking I would initiate the process in Jan or Feb 2015.

I have a friend who is a Medical Service Officer now--and told me that board only meets once a year.

My dad, who is a retired Navy Commander, suggested I wait to talk to the health services recruiter until I'm ready to start the process. I don't have a lot of time to wait...thinking I would get in with the FY2016 applicants....?

Thanks for anyone who can clarify this!

The January FY 2016 board just met and I was notified I am Alternate#4, Has anyone ever been in this situation, I was applying for an FQ ED spot and was told there was 5 slots. I just want to know if any alternates made it in their FY calendar or did they wait for a new board

I was an alternate for med-surg (#3). I had to apply again and got it the next cycle. I think it's extremely unlikely 4 of the 5 people they accepted are going to turn down their offers (which is what would need to happen for you to be picked up).

@Stephsana...Has your alternate status changed since your last post?

I just found out I was moved from alternate to select yesterday, I got my packet ready for round two for the July Boards. So right now I'm just waiting for the next step in the process. It is possible to pick up as an alternate, but you just have to wait.
