For experienced nurses, the AF has twice-annual boards currently...March and Oct. You need to start the process about 5-6 months before the board meets. However, that's subject to change depending on how many nurses they need. There is an additional 1 board per year ~July that takes new grads (
The healthcare recruiters will blow you off at times until you are fully committed. However, ask questions now if you have them...it is their job.
Darthshine,
There is a possibility yoy could be included with the January selection boards, but you would have to get your stuff together pretty quick. You will need 3 professional letters of recommendation to start with, which I found took the longest to get together. The rest of the application process went pretty quick. You need to get a hold of a health professions recruiter to get things started though, and tell them you want to be included with the next selection board.
Does anyone know if its true if you have to wait 6 months from the last time you applied? I applied for the September boards and did not get selected. I changed jobs to get higher level experience and know there is still one NICU slot open (which is what I am going for). So I wanted to reapply with the next fully qualified board, but was told you needed to wait.

Does anyone know how often the USAF nurse corps selection board meets for each FY?
I'm an RN-BSN with 7.5 years experience (L&D, NICU and Pedi). I know the application process takes some time, but am thinking I would initiate the process in Jan or Feb 2015.
I have a friend who is a Medical Service Officer now--and told me that board only meets once a year.
My dad, who is a retired Navy Commander, suggested I wait to talk to the health services recruiter until I'm ready to start the process. I don't have a lot of time to wait...thinking I would get in with the FY2016 applicants....?
Thanks for anyone who can clarify this!
