Any critical care nurses applying for the october board?

Hi All! Any prior service members on this board know what the document requirements are to get the ball rolling in the very early stages? Or at least know where I can find them? Thanks and congrats to all who got a COT date!

To answer that, I'd have to know where you are in the application process. If you're starting from scratch, you need to find a healthcare recruiter. They have to determine your basic eligibility to apply first (is your BSN properly accredited?, are you a criminal?, do you have D/Q health issues?).

Contact Us: Find a Recruiter - airforce.com pick "healthcare student or professional"

After that, you need a resume, the last 10 years of your medical records (plus documentation of pretty much any hospitalization or surgery), an interview, 9 essays, and 40+pages of AF application forms. Finally, you need an official physical at MEPS.

At the risk of over-generalizing, nurses don't get health waivers anymore.

Thanks for your reply, jfratian. I have contacted a recruiter, granted it was Friday morning, so I expect to hear something this week. My BSN is accredited by the AACN, I am not a criminal (last I checked) and no health issues that would d/q me so I don't think I'll need a waiver. Where could I find more info about the essay requirements? Thanks again for your reply!

You might have to be tenacious - I wouldn't expect them to respond with any urgency because they are often inundated with inquiries from qualified RNs. If you don't hear back soon, keep trying! Good luck.

The recruiter is going to have the most up to date essay prompts. I can tell you most of the questions are pretty standard: why do you want to join the AF?, why nursing?, what sets you apart from your peers?

When I was applying, you only had 2 pages (single spaced times new roman 12pt font) to answer all 9.

The overall process will take roughly nearly 1 year from the time you contact a recruiter to the time you start commissioned officer training (COT). That's if you get in the first time. I hope you have your CCRN before you apply!

Thanks for the info! I do have my CCRN, thankfully. I guess I will step up the tenacity; maybe they gauge the true desire on the number of emails from each individual!

Hi there!

I am also an OB nurse and this will by my second time applying for COT. I was reading through all the postings, did you get selected?!

I am applying for October 2015 I tried last year too : /
