Air force nursing cot august 2014

Not sure if someone has started a thread for this Class. If there is one already, please send me a link for it. I thought we should have a threat to prepare people who made it to this class. Any input from the other guys that we started this long journey with would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks. I have already purchased everything except the ribbons, ribbon mounts and hydration system. I will hold off on them until I arrive at COT.

Hello GraceRN11, I will be attending COT in Aug and was wondering if you purchased all your stuff at the exchange on base or online? I went to purchase all my stuff on base and they are making me wait for orders?

My recruiter took me after swearing in in Feb. I didn't have to have my orders with him with me. I wouldn't recommend buying online because you should really try everything on.

Bogielea,

another person on here also just bought his gear without orders. He contacted his sponsor and his sponsor told him he would be able to buy without orders. All you need is a way on your local base. Someone with an ID or you can get a visitor pass at the main gate.

I aslo went last month and bought uniforms on base with out orders and went with my recruiter. we had no problems and had the alternation items sent to our home address took about 2 weeks to get back.

Nope, no orders yet. I was told to expect them mid-July. I'm really looking forward to finally having them in hand.

GraceRN11 and bradmervin,

Thank you for responding! I will go and get everything tomorrow then. I thought we had to wait on orders. I went and picked everything out and they are holding it until I get orders but if I don't need them then I will just get everything taken care of now. My husband is in the Marine Corps so a way on to base is no problem!

That sounds like a great resource, worth looking into. I was originally told by my recruiter that I would start as an O1 and have only 3 months until making O2. But the LOA I received just said O1, so I was hoping to clarify. My understanding is that the orders would be more specific in regards to this. Does that sound right? It's been so long since I reviewed and signed those initial documents, I just don't want to be taken for less than I should accept, not that it would deter me either way. I'm equally excited for you, as I know the road to this wasn't easy nor fun.

This is based on your nursing experience. You probably got some time credit towards O2 which will shorten your promotion. It sounds, right don't worry.

They have some people arrive at COT without any uniforms, so the first few days are set up to get that done. Don't worry if you don't have all your pieces.

For fitness, don't show up out of shape. You will SO regret this. The AF PT requirements are easily found online. Run, do pushups and sit-ups. If you show up flabby it will only add the considerable stress they pile on you. You will do a PT test the first few days, then another later on. Did I say don't show up out of shape? Just to be clear, don't show up out of shape. Put another way, prepare...
