Air Force Nurse Corps

Specialties Government

I will be graduating in May 2010 with my BSN. My current plan is to join the Air Force once I am done with school. I have spoken briefly to a recruiter but I am sure I could call him and ask him these questions but getting information from fellow nurses seems like a good idea. My main question is when do I need to like seriously commit to the Air Force? Do you do the training and all that jazz post graduation? I do not want to stop my schooling when I only have a year left. Any and all information is greatly apprecited!

Thank You!!!

Talked to a recruiter today and all positions are filled for current 2011 fiscal year (no surprise since the new one is coming soon) but they said they should have the number of opening they are looking for very soon.

I have read lots of post on here trying to get info over the past month and most everyone says don't trust what the recruiter says or promises because they have no control...My question is who do you trust..no one..so how are you supposed to make an informed decision on whether or not to join if you get nothing but false promises and lies. I don't want to sign and get screwed over later and have no way to back out.

Also I have read lots of new nurses that have just graduated getting in etc, but it seems like for those of us who have experience have a harder time getting in, whats up with that. Even in this economy with my 4 years of peds experience I would have no problem finding another job but from talking to the recruiter and reading here I will lucky if I can get a position in peds.

Any help of info would be great

In general you can trust the Health Care Professions recruiter. Of my experience so far I have had no bull or false information. In general, officer recruiters are a bit better. It is the enlisted side where truths are usually stretched. Still, keep track of everything in the process, and try to get everything in writing.

Hey everyone,

I am a new grad (Sept. 2011) with a prior degree who is going back and fourth with the idea of joining the Air Force of Navy nurse corps. Right now I work for a pharmacutical company and have my ACLS/IV cert and I'm looking to either do homecare or try and get in a hospital for now to get experience. I have been interested in both for some time, but figured I would wait until I passed my NCLEX and started working to try and enlist as an officer. Anyone know how it i for new grads trying to get in? Anyone know when the best time is to start applying. I am sure 2012 is probably already closed, so I'll prob have to wait for the 2013 fiscal year, this fall. Does anyone have any advice on what the application process is, what you'll need for the application etc? If anyone has any insight on what the process/officer training is like, please let me know. I've been thinking about this for a while, but allowed family/BF to get in the way of my dreams until I finally decided not to let anyone get in my way anymore....

Thanks!
