Aiken Tech Fall 2015 Hopefuls

Anyone applying to Aiken Tech's nursing program for fall 2015 acceptance? If so how many merit points did you have? What is your GPA?

so is anyone going to do the math bootcamp thing that was included in the packet? I am trying to decide if it's worth it, as I have to find childcare if I go. I am going to do the CPR class on the 17th if they still have it open.

Hey guys! Congrats to all of us!!! I can't wait to start this semester, even though I know it's going to be a lot of work. Even looking through the packet, I'm getting exhausted. Shan, I am going to the math bootcamp, since math is not my strongest subject and they place so much importance on the pharmacology tests for each semester. I don't know when I'm taking CPR class. Maybe the one offered on July 23rd. Vdubbers, I was accepted into the ADN program. What about you?

I am not strong or weak in math. I can do it if I take the time to slow down. At the same time...it couldn't hurt to have the extra help. I am in the ADN program. I would have taken the LPN program if I had not been accepted into the ADN though. Aiken Tech's offering of the CPR class is much cheaper than I have found elsewhere, so I am going to use them to do it. I am shooting for the one on the 17th since my husband is off that day and can be with my son. And yes...the packet itself is daunting !

Hey I just wanted to let you all know that although CVS will do the physicals and TB tests, it is $79 for the physical, $28 for the TB test, and another $28 to get it read. I just called Doctors Urgent and Primary Care, and they offer same day appointments. They take most insurances and the copay is considerably less than the total would be. Mine will be less than the TB test itself.

yeah. I was planning on looking into CVS, so thanks for letting us know of that information. I plan on going to Urgent MD tomorrow morning to get my physical. Then I have to request my shot records, see which ones I am missing, and then go back to Urgent MD to get those shots done at a later time. So much work! Today I went to school and checked out a CPR book and registered for the July 23rd class at 8am. I would recommend calling Ms. Norris first, though, because when I went she seemed kinda busy and annoyed that I had interrupted her.

I am registered for the July 17 class. I am trying to buy the smaller things now so I am not so overwhelmed. I was told we need a white watch, nursing scissors, a pen light, a stethoscope and white socks. Oh and the scrubs are Cherokee brand and we have to get the unisex ones. I am buying the almost everything via eBay except the scrubs, which are actually more expensive on there. I had forgot to ask if the watch can be digital or if it has to be the kind with the hands.

hey shan! Have you tried to look up the syllabi for the classes. They really tell you a lot about exactly which books to buy, recommended books, and other materials required (like type of watch). Just go to the aiken tech page, and to the right there should be a link that says class syllabus. from there, choose "nursing", then "nursing 101" and "nursing 106".

Hello everyone!

Frist off, congrats and best of luck to all who are starting nursing school this fall. I am posting because I have some of the required books that you'll need for sale. I have pulled prices off of Amazon and I put which description I used next to the listing. I bought all of these books new from the Aiken Tech bookstore, and they are still in excellent condition. Here is what I have:

Fundamentals:

Lecture & Lab combo - Amazon = 85.46 for new. (I highly recommend purchasing a new or like new Lab book because it falls apart easily since it is paperback). I used the new price because I feel like mine are worth more than the listed used price in "good" condition.

DVD - Amazon = 89.99 for used in very good condition.

Pharm:

Lecture - Amazon = 75.52 (used - like new)

Study Guide - Amazon = 32.26 (used- like new)

Med Term in a Flash - Amazon lists their new one for 48.56. I used this price because I did not tear out the flashcards in the back of the book, so mine is in new condition.

Comprehensive Lab book - Amazon is 36.80 for a new copy. My copy is new, and I feel is worth more than the used listed price.

The total for these listed if purchased on Amazon would be 368.59 without tax or shipping. I will sell all of them for 275.00. This is half of the listed books that are required for first semester. Like I said above, I paid over 700 bucks at the bookstore because I didn't have time to wait for shipping through Amazon before school started.

Does anyone know when we will get schedules? It says tuition and fees are due by the 31st but I don't have a schedule yet to know how much tuition is.
