AHS - starting the thread!

OK - here goes.................................what do Alberta RN's think about the AHS new contract proposals?? Has no-one started the thread yet because they are in shock at the cheek of the super board?? Accepting that their early proposals are gamesmanship to try & make us feel better when they give way on some things, I still believe this is an incredibly inflammatory offer, what do you all think?

I think we should call this the AHS-2011 Thread seeing as the Albertan Nurses seem to be some of the most vocal on the board.

Uhm, I'm going to throw a curve ball out there. I really don't believe that UNA will get that much support from HSAA and AUPE over this contract negotiation.

AUPE nurses got shafted two contracts ago and UNA never came out and vocally supported them. HSAA hasn't done much better. UNA still has a superior package to both of the other healthcare unions.

AUPE lost it's OT for part time nurses and were told UNA would lose that on the next round. Never happened and UNA has had two contracts since then.

UNA and specifically CARNA have alienated other healthcare workers with the constant claims that only RNs can provide quality healthcare. The LPNs, OTs, RTs that I work with are fed up of this add being pulled out each and every spring.

I wish UNA every piece of luck available in keeping what they have. But CARNA really needs to stop slamming the LPNs, RPNs, OTs, PTs of this province.

Hehe! I knew this discussion was started but it's hidden in another thread :-)

I had no idea how bitter feelings were btw LPN's etc & RN's but that's not my fault & I don't see why it should impact on our wage negotiaitions anyway. If the AUPE can't get it right it's not the UNA's fault. I have nothing but respect for all my colleagues, whatever they do, & I would support them any way I could.

The bitterness is directed at the "bigwigs" who run the ad campaigns. It's directed at the bargaining people at AHS who speak with one hand and do with another.

If you support your coworkers, let CARNA know that you don't agree with their ads.

This is the least offensive one. Last year's (can't find it on the net) drew letters of protest from AUPE, CRPNA, CLPNA and various rank and file members of the two other nursing bodies.

We are constantly being encouraged to work as a team but everytime headway is made CARNA gives out the RN is the only way to have safe, cost effective healthcare.

Comes of being an innocent IEN - all this politics stuff! They ditched our LPN equivalents in the UK many moons ago & I think it's one of the worst things (& trust me they've done a few) they did.

Personally I think the latest campaign is just designed to assist the UNA bargaining & counteract some of the erosion of RN jobs that AHS has stated as it's aim. I don't believe it is meant as a slur to LPNs, it's just a professional body supporting it's own members in their efforts.
